This is my version of FF7's ninja, Yuffie, rendered as a cat-person. It's inspired by a story I read on FF.net involving Yuffie being turned into a neko. I say "inspired by" because this drawing isn't based strictly upon that story -- I took plenty of creative liberties. Eagle eyes may notice the small blades hidden in her left-arm cape (throwing knives) and that she is actually wearing her shorts on backwards (it shouldn't take long to reason why).

This drawing is my example of a "hand-drawn negative", a true way to make an 'inverted' drawing. Instead of shading normally and inverting the result, you shade in reverse (darks for light and lights for dark) so that it will look normal when inverted.

On the bottom left is what the original concept sketch looked like, and on the bottom right is the completed sketch with its inverted shading. After scanning, I inverted it on computer and applied a 180-degree hue rotation to produce this fantastic result.

Who knows, I might try this again in the future just for fun....

KFelidaeStrata, you continue to amaze me at your unique takes on drawing as a medium. I could never find the patience to sit and think out a technique, much less put it into play and have it come out so well-- !
Anywho, on to the drawing!

I see you're getting a hang of the spine being several large joints, as opposed to just two or three. Very nice. And the pose itself is stellar. Motion is simply pouring off of the pic. I like the way that the fur stops at the hand, leaving way for grasping, cooling, and all the other good stuff our palms and wrists do. And that tail! *squee!* Looks very much like a REAL cat's tail in it's proportions!

I do have two rather trivial nits, however. The nose looks a bit large on the feline face. I don't know if this is because of the colouring inversion and has to do with the original outline getting in the way (your other nekos didn't seem to have this problem), or is simply an anamoly. And the dewclaw on the neko's left foot seems very low on the paw itself. Not far down on the leg, but too close to the ground. I would have ot see some furless sketches of the leg to fulyl understand this, though.
Good pic!
