StratadrakeI know what it's like to scan a large image in sections and stitch them together later, it is doable but not fun (and varies by the exact size of the piece).  Some tips on this matter:
Keep a healthy amount of overlap (about 2-3") between each scan so you can crop/mask out the blurry portion where the sheet curled off the edge of the scanner bed.  Cutting a sheet of cardboard to almost the size of your scanner and placing it behind the page you're scanning can help keep those edges flatter.  And make sure to save/reload the exact exposure settings between scans (note that this varies by specific scan software, as some apps will allow you to make consecutive scans with the same settings, but not all).  After that, it's just a standard practice of aligning and compositing the layers.
