Severus Snape, death eater turned spy. He stated he turned from Voldemort because Voldemort wanted to kill Lily Potter that and he owed James Potter a life debt. Yet his turning was probably due to how unstable even at that time Voldemort was and Severus wanted a way to defeat him.
