If anyone remembers the "Negative" contest I ran a few months ago in the forums, GollumDragon was one of the four finalists with her inverted wolf drawing, 'Luna Rouge'. There was no clear winner to the contest, but as a thank-you for participating, her request was for a darkness-type dragon in the same vein as my elemental dragons series.

So, here he is -- and what better way to draw out a prize to the 'Negative' contest than to use the hand-drawn negative technique?

So, what is this dragon? His element is a form of darkness, but not the same type of darkness as the one associated with evil. Perhaps his is a purer form of it, characterized by the night, stars, and moon. And what is the moon? No more than a celestial body that reflects the sun's light onto the dark side of the planet. Henceforth, this dragon could be considered a lesser twin to the Light element, a beacon to illuminate the areas where light does not normally reach.

He may not be part of my official elemental dragons series but he can nonetheless hold his own in their presence.

Medium: Inverted colored, ebony, and 0.7mm pencil (for more information, see here)

MaestroYou have a big reservoir of creativity, my friend! Somehow, this is just mezmerizing. I love the contrast of shades cast by the moonlight. I used to draw a lot of dragon too, but my work was always in .05 mechanical pencil (greyscale). I'm new here, and I started posting my pics too, so it'd be cool if u would check'em out, n'share your thoughts.

Fairygurl27this is beautiful, you really captured the beauty of this dragon, the tail and wings look magnificent, it is very interesting to see your dragons and have specific traits for each one, like a lightning bolt, a flame like scale, and so on, the background adds a very nice touch, wonderful job! *Adds to favs*

HeatherenieThis dragon also reminds me of the devil, when lucifer was in heaven he was God's favorite angel because he was unique. God made him beautiful and he appointed him as the angel who reflected God's light or glory. like this dragon seems to reflect...the light in the light Dragon. He must be of some high rank next to the Ruler, but i hope that this dragon doesn't go against the ruler like lucifer did because of his self pride. He may think he might as well be the ruler since he basically reflects the same light and highness.

JediRevan20Another masterpiece, I see. I like the subtle details in the sky, how it looks scratched and all.

GollumDragonWow I had no idea you finished it! It looks even better then I had expected you put a lot of work into this! Didn't know you were going to make another elements dragon I had just used that as a hint I like the dark stuff ^-^ Yea it's bad enough I am tired now I'm in a state of gleeful shock. *hops up and down* Thankees! (I plan to make one for your new contest too, just dunno if I'll have time because I'll be away visiting colleges all Easter vacation and I've got 4 projects due so....I'll do my best) XD

PS- Did I mention I love the colors?

KFelidaeCrecent shapes abond on this one! The elbow and knee ridges, the horns, the tail-spades... Very well integrated!

And I really like the "dark" atmostphere of the pic. Combined with his colour scheme and the blowing wind, it gives it the feel of a cold, clear winter's night somewhere in the Northwest.

Brilliant, I say.
