July 2002 . . . I think.
I originally started out drawing a gryphon, but about halfway through I decided to to change it into... this freakish thing. (In a good way, of course.) I don't know why I left it as lineart, but this is a creature I call 'manticore' -- different from the standard fantasy variety. I could go into a whole backstory about them, but that's something for another time.
Medium: 0.7mm pencil
Time: About one hour
Scale: 75px/in
