So, I decided to enter a contest on FAC for once...really worked my butt off on this one too. So, a little background to this: as you might have noticed, my screen name is theIrishFay. This came from a discussion I had with a good friend of mine here on FAC.(who I am also fortunate enough to be friends with in real life!) She had come up with fantasy-personas for her and all her friends. I begged for one too, and so we bounced ideas back and forth for a while, and came up with an Irish Fae for my fantasy alter-ego. Why? Because I'm part Irish, and I knew it just had to be something winged, as wings,flight and freedom have kindv'e been a theme in my dreams. Yes, it is a little over-fantasized version of me, but I like it :)
Did you know that when mushrooms are in a circle, it's called a "faerie ring" and it's said in Irish legend that it's a portal to the faerie world? Also, the Fae are traditionally called the "good folk" in ancient Irish tales ;)

Just dropping back in for another look.I am appreciating the look of the wings a great deal - the leaf-like veins, and that color - I've seen something a little like that before, when standing under leaves full of sunlight.

nice to have you aboard this Contest! i love the little history lesson ou gave on this matter its quite interesting! and weren't "the good folk" also the ones to to do dark and terrible things to you when you DID find them? or was that elves in Norse mythology......i cant remember ^.^'anywho i really love your wings and dress and that blue actually goes well with the green of the dress!

Thanks for the compliments! I'm usually terrible at meeting deadlines, so I'm glad I actually made it into this contest! I had a limited color range of copics to work with, so it was kindv'e challenging. And yes, your'e right- the "good folk" actually weren't all that good...at least according to Irish myth. I researched this stuff a TON last year cause I found it pretty intruiging. There's some pretty crazy stuff in the old Irish tales, like changelings. (Faerie babies switched with human infants unbeknownst to the parents 0.o) Generally, faerie are a mix of inviting, wild, and dangerous...but, that isn't to say there aren't some good ones here and there! ;)Dream_Fire on April 3, 2013, 6:49:43 PM

*snugs* That's scan-default? Man, your scanner comes through a lot better than mine.Well, parts of it were. Interesting, that is. Parts of it were kind of derivative, though, and it's been awhile since I had a proper chat with the co-author. I'm wondering if he & I can redraft to tighten it up a bit, if we ever hang out again. <.<
