I dunno if you've ever worked in a convenience (or any) store like I do, but did you know that in the event of a robbery, store policies often actually instruct the cashiers to comply with the robber's instructions? The money in the till isn't worth injury to them, other employees, or other customers. Most stores have cameras over the registers anyway, so after the robbery is over, the cashier calls police with the robber's description (or any other info), and the security manager can dig up the tape for evidence.
