I used Prismacolor pencils they are much better than crayola but they also cost like a dollar each unless you buy a set which is much cheaper in the beginning if you don't have any. You just press harder or softer depending on where you want folds or shadows. They've also come out with clear ones which are cool because they smooth the colored pencil on the paper so you can't see the paper texture like in this pic.
