Chapter 20 - Kishin Showdown: Shinigami and Spirit

In the Death Room the sounds of Oni’s battle with Maka and Soul could be heard. Both Shinigami and Spirit were listening intently to see who was winning and who would emerge the victor. But as they listened, they both noticed the sounds of battle and ceased, which made both of them very nervous.[br]
“Did she win?” Spirit pondered[br]
“I’m not sure” Shinigami replied “ I can still feel the wavelengths of Kishin Oni, Maka and Soul”[br]
“But the fighting stopped hasn’t it?”[br]
“I don’t know Spirit-kun. I just don’t know”[br]
The two would not have to wait long for an answer to their aching question, as Kishin Oni slowly emerged from the darkness of the Death Corridor and was finally in the Death Room itself.[br]
“You two look surprised to see me?” she said with a smug smile[br]
shoot she got passed Maka Shinigami thought as he watched Oni approach the centre of the room where he was standing[br]
“What the Hell?” Spirit gasped[br]
“What’s wrong Spirit-kun?”[br]
“Is that Soul in his Scythe form she’s holding?”[br]
Shinigami paused and look carefully at Oni. To his horror he realised that she had indeed had possession of Soul in his weapon form. “What the hell have you done you demon?” he demanded[br]
Oni merely smirked and answered “I shattered his mind, making him a doll then I used Soul Possession to control what was left”[br]
“What of Maka? What have you done to my daughter?” Spirit exclaimed, desperate for an answer[br]
Another smirk appeared on Oni’s face and said “Oh nothing much. Just crushed her pathetic Soul”[br]

If there was one thing that Spirit held dear to him, it was the safety of his daughter, Maka. But after hearing that this Demon had crushed her Soul almost made him fall to his knees and cry. But before he could give into his emotions, Shinigami placed an assuring hand on his shoulder saying, “Maka is still alive Spirit-kun. Her Soul maybe crushed but it seems that Oni was not able to crush her soul completely out of existence. So there is a chance to rescue her.”[br]
Spirit then turned to Shinigami and asked, “Are you sure?”[br]
“Positive” Shinigami nodded “But before we can save your daughter, we must get rid of this wench of a Demon”[br]
Spirit felt relived and managed to place his emotions in check before he turned to face the scourge of the earth; Kishin Oni[br]

“I may not have killed her successfully, but it won’t matter in the end. As all of you will soon perish” Oni arrogantly preached[br]
“Is that so?” Questioned Shinigami, as he made a gesture to Spirit to turn into a Death Scythe “You must really by on you high horse of you think you can beat me in here”[br]
“Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Asura beat you in this room? The room where you are at you most powerful?”[br]
Before Shinigami replied, he grabbed Spirit, whom had now turned into a Death Scythe “Of course he did but only because there were others in the room as well as us, so he took advantage of that”[br]
“And nearly killed you in the process of you defending these people yes?”[br]
“Correct. But don’t go thinking the lighting strikes twice now. This time there is no outside influence; it’s just you and me, with our own death weapons. But as you know, my weapon partner is a Death scythe and is willing to help me, while your weapon partner is just a puppet and is not yet a Death scythe, so my weapon is superior”[br]
He does have a point. But he is also wrong at the same time Oni thought as she began to mentally prepare herself to battle her nemesis.[br]
“Superior you say? I think not. More power yes, but not superior” Oni chuckled “But enough song and dance. Lets just get on with the fight”[br]
“Agreed”[br]

The time had finally arrived. The rematch between Kishin Oni and Shinigami was only a mere moment away.[br]
Though the room was silent, the air was thick tension as the two almighty beings stared each other down as to what would be a battle for the ages.[br]
[br]
Instinctively the two charged simultaneously at each other and clashed with their respective scythes. Due to the clash they ended up in a weapon deadlock and both were trying to overpower the other in a test of strength. The power that the two were wielding changed the environment of the Death Room from its pleasant Azure blue colour to a dark and menacing blood red colour. Indeed this battle was a battle of the titans, each with a lot to lose but also a lot to gain.[br]

Eventually it was Oni who ended the weapon dead lock by slamming Shinigami in the face using her Invisible Soul Extending powers. The sudden impact of the blow sent Shinigami hurtling the other direction and somewhat vulnerable to attack. Oni was quick to capitalise on the opportunity by teleporting herself directly in front of where Shinigami hurtling towards.[br]
But Shinigami was prepared. He then quickly up righted himself and swung his scythe at Oni’s neck, to which she easily ducked under and then counter attacked by swinging her scythe at Shinigami’s midsection, to which he jumped away from.[br]

This little dance of attack and dodge continued for sometime. That was until Oni’s decided enough was enough and fired a beam of energy from her third eye. Shinigami then stopped and used the palm of his free hand to stop the attack, but he soon deduced that he could not hold it back and so deflected the attack away from him. Rather predictably the energy beam ended up blasting the farthest reaches of the Death Room and bore a massive hole that lead to the outside world.[br]

“Not bad Shinigami” Oni smirked “For a moment I thought I got you there”[br]
“Don’t think that a simple technique like that could stop me so easily Kishin” Barked Shinigami[br]
“Hmph well it seems that you’ve aided me by making an opening to the outside world. So what say we take this conflict outside”[br]
“Only if you can survive getting outside first you can”[br]
[br]
Shinigami then charged at Oni in an attempt to stop her from escaping the Death Room, but Oni was not going to let Shinigami have his way. She immediately darted to the hole in the wall but found Shinigami tailing behind too close for her comfort and so created clone of herself to keep Shinigami back for a few moments.[br]
But the attempt failed as Shinigami cut through it and continued to give chase.[br]
Oni then started to use her Soul Extending technique to try and slow down Shinigami. At first it was having the desired effect but all to soon Shinigami began to use his own Soul Perception power to see the attacks coming. Once Oni noticed that Shinigami was dodging her attacks she then decided create a Kishin barrier between him and her.[br]
Due to the speed that Shinigami was travelling at, he wasn’t able to stop or move out of the way the barrier and slammed into it extremely hard.[br]
“Shinigami-sama are you alright?” Spirit asked worriedly[br]
“Yes Spirit-kun. I’m fine. Just a little dazed” Shinigami replied, still trying to regain his senses and his bearings.[br]
As soon as Shinigami realised where he was it was too late to stop Oni from escaping to the Death Room, for as soon as he got his senses together, he saw her go through the gaping hole out of the Death Room[br]
“Damn it” he cursed as realised what just occurred.[br]

“Finally made it outside” said to herself trying to get some breath back “Now all that is left is to end this fight”[br]
As she waited for her nemesis to appear before her, Oni watched her Lost Soul minions destroying and killing anything and anyone in their destructive path. “It seems my pets are doing their jobs right”[br]
Upon further look of the carnage she soon noticed that Shibusen was full of holes were the Lost Soul had managed to break into and attack the Safe Heavens. As a result, the battle had flooded back into the streets of Death City and every Meister and Weapon were fighting for their lives, as well as the civilians that had got caught up in the chaos.[br]
Oni simply smiled as she watched the madness unfold, pleased with her work.[br]
It was not long before Shinigami emerged from the Death Room and witnessed first hand the devastation that Oni and her army had wrought[br]
“This can’t be happening” Spirit gasped as he saw the city in flames and almost total ruin[br]
“Oh but it is Death Scythe” Oni chuckled “And isn’t it beautiful?”[br]
Shinigami quickly turned round and face Oni and said with sheer anger in his voice “You’ve gone too far you retched Demon”[br]
“Not far enough it seems. I won’t rest until this entire place is wiped off the map and everyone that is aligned to you cease to exist.” Oni said with a malicious smile on her face[br]

By this point Shinigami could no longer hold back his fury to what the maniacal Kishin had done and was ready to rip her apart for the evil she had committed.[br]
“Spirit its time we stop playing games and kill her here and now” he barked[br]
“Right. Lets do it Shinigami-sama” Spirit agreed[br]
[br]
SOUL RESONANCE[br]
[br]
Shinigami and Spirit’s soul wavelength were now becoming one and the two’s power were now becoming unmatched. The Soul Resonance continued until Spirit turned into the legendary and powerful Kishin Hunter Scythe.[br]
Oni just looked on looking rather unimpressed. “What wrong Kishin?” Shinigami hissed “Not what you were expecting”[br]
“Oh no I was expecting this… it’s just that I’m not afraid of a power that I can defeat” Oni answered drearily[br]
“No one has ever beaten this power outright. So what makes you think you can beat it?”[br]
“Wanna find out?”[br]
[br]
Shinigami didn’t waste any time in charging Oni and violently swung his Death Scythe over and over again to try and get a good opening to quickly kill the demonic girl. But she was not going to give him the chance. As Shinigami kept on swinging he was losing control of his senses by giving into his anger and pushing him into an insane rage that only worked to Oni’s advantage.[br]
Just when the Death God thought he found a weakness in the Demon Goddess’s defence he immediately swung at the weak spot. Only to discover that it was only a ploy and he suddenly found himself incapable of moving his Death Scythe.[br]
“You witch. What have you done?” he ordered[br]
“Try using you Soul Perception and you might have noticed already” She sniggered[br]
As suggested to him, Shinigami used his Soul Perception and made a dreadful realisation. He had not only been dancing to the Demon’s tune but her Soul Extensions where now wrapped around his Death Scythe, effectively making it immobile.[br]
“Damn it” he cursed[br]
“You should have kept calm instead of falling into you rage and you might have seen your folly,” Mocked the conniving Demon “Now you will pay for your short sightedness”[br]
Oni quickly used a Soul Extension and hammered Shinigami in the face - which sent him hurtling into the ground - leaving Oni alone with the defenceless Spirit.[br]
“Time for you to be mine Mr Death Scythe” Oni then used her Insane Soul Wavelength to coax Spirit into returning into human form by sending it directly into him.[br]
It worked. Spirit had indeed returned to human form but he could not get away as the Demon God still had her Soul Extensions wrapped around him.[br]
“Let me go” he demanded, but was quickly denied.[br]
Oni knew she had him and was now preparing for her next act, shattering Spirit’s mind just as she did Soul’s.[br]
All too quickly and easily, Spirit went through the same process that Soul went through and was now under the absolute control of the Kishin.[br]

Back on the ground, Shinigmai managed to get up and up into the air but was unable to help Spirit’s mind being shattered and his soul being possessed.[br]
No she did it again he thought, as he looked on helpless[br]
“Like what you see Shinigami? I hope so because now that I have your Death Scythe victory is guaranteed” Oni cheered as she let go of Soul from her hand and took hold of Spirit in his place.[br]
Soul crashed to the ground but thankfully he was still in weapon form and so was not injured but had he returned to human form the results would be very different.[br]
“Alright then now time for the real fun to begin” Sang Oni[br]
“What are you going to do now Demon?”[br]
“Unlock the power to kill a Death God”[br]
“A Shinigami hunter? There is no such thing”[br]
“Oh but I think there is. It’s just that no one has ever activated or used the ability so people assume it doesn’t exist” She then raised her Scythe above her end and called out “SOUL RESONANCE”[br]

Oni’s Soul Resonance was not a natural one as it was a forced resonance. However that did not mean that it did not achieve the desired results. As Shinigami looked on he saw to his horror and shock that his Death Scythe had turned into a new Death Weapon never seen before.[br]
“Behold Shinigami.. Your doom, the Shinigami hunter Death Scythe” Oni celebrated “Now time for you to die”[br]

Oni vaulted towards her opponent and tried to swing an attack put Shinigami was having none of it. He created a shield that appeared above Oni and sent her nose-diving into the ground with catastrophic force.[br]
“Stay down you witch” Shinigami ordered as he put pressure on the shield to pin Oni under it[br]
“Not bad Shinigami” She smirked “But I’m way ahead of you”[br]
Oni’s turned into black smoke under the Shinigami shield. It was a copy thought Shinigami as turned behind him to see Oni seconds away from cutting him. Instinctively he summoned another shield to protect him from the blow. Oni slammed her Scythe into the shield with the intent on breaking through it with raw power. “Time for your reign to end Death God”[br]
Just as soon as she said those words her Scythe broke through the barrier between him and her enemy.[br]
“This ends now” she cawed as she swung her Scythe to deliver the killing blow.[br]
[br]
Unfortunately for Shinigami the power of this new Death Weapon was too much. The Scythe cut through him like a hot knife through butter after some initial resistance and his body faded until all that was left was his Soul.[br]
Almost immediately Oni grabbed the Soul before any of the onlookers on the ground could contemplate what had just happened. “Finally I’ve done it. I defeated the God of Death. I defeated Death itself” She cheered[br]

“THIS WORLD NOW BELONGS TO ME”[br]
