Fasendil
Legate states that he's been in the Legion since at least 4E 42 (42nd year of the 4th era), Skyrim takes place in 4E 201, so he's been a solider for over 150 years. That is true loyalty to his duty right there, and how tough he must be to survive for that long. Altmer can live for hundreds or thousands of years, so that may seem like a long time to humans, but to a High Elf, it may just seem like a decade or two. But the fact that he's willing to fight and die for a group of people, Nords, who not only hate his kind, but worship someone they think of as a god, Tiber Septim (Talos), who slaughtered his people... that says a lot about him.

Fasendil's assumptions regarding the Thalmor being involved with the Skyrim Civil War are proven right in the Thalmor Dossier on Ulfric Stormcloak.

"Ulfric and his thugs are stirring up trouble for their own agenda."

"But I put in to be stationed here to keep an eye on the Thalmor. I've a feeling they're behind this unrest in Skyrim."

Skyrim confessions
"Legate Fasendil is by far my favorite member of the Imperial Legion, and serves as the perfect example that not all Altmer are as prejudicial or hateful as the Thalmor, a group I hate more then the Mythic Dawn, and Dark Brotherhood combined."

"I support the Empire and I felt a bit bad when Maven Black-Briar became Jarl of Riften. But, I'm really glad that the Legate in charge there got Legate Fasendil because I admire him a lot and is living proof that to be an Altmer, or other kind of mer doesn't mean to be Thalmor and, if you listen to him, you can have a great perspective of how things are going. Plus, he is an amazing person."

I would rather play as Fasendil and other characters throughout the game since the main character, the Dragonborn, is too much of a blank slate with no background or personality and just a Mary Sue / Gary Stu, there's nothing he or she can't do or get. Even if you fail the test the Thieves Guild gives you, they still allow you to join... every guild storyline starts and ends the same way, you join a guild, there leader dies, you take over, even though there are others who have been there longer and are more qualified, and you just repeat the redundant missions.

Altmer/High Elves
Like the video states, not all High Elves are Thalmor, the event of Night of Green Fire is a perfect example, it took place in a High Elf district in Sentinel. Altmer were living there because they wanted to get away from the oppression of the Aldmeri Dominion. The district was destroyed, every Altmer was killed by Thalmor agents and some of those killed were Fasendil's relatives.
