Chapter 1 - The Attack

Chapter 1 - The Attack
(the opening and Orin's pov)
On a dark night, a woman in a dark cloak runs down a street. She carries a baby girl and is followed by a little boy. Her children.
"Hurry Orin!" she calls to the boy. Orin trips and falls as a growl is heard in the distance. The mother helps her son up guides him behind a dumpster in an ally.
"Stay here. I'll come back." She said as she took off. Orin waited for a half an hour. Soon he heard footsteps running towards the ally.
"Momma!" he said as he looked out from behind the dumpster. It was his mother but, she was empty handed. folowing her was a gigantic dragon. Orin ducked back behind the dumpster. His mother's shadow came into view on the wall across the street. Unfortunately, the dragon caught up with her before she could reach the ally. It grabbed her between it's large jaws and devoured her whole. Orin was horified. No child should have whitnessed such an act.

(The mother's side)
The mother ran through the street with her baby. She came to a Japanese style bridge. Small slips of paper with writing on them were stuck on either side of the entrance. The mother continued across the bridge. She stoped and turned around to see the dragon collide with a barrier. It gave the mother a cold glare before taking off into the sky. The mother continued on towards a large shrine in the middle of a bamboo forest. She placed her baby at the door of the shrine. She then reached into her pocket and pulled out a half of a medalion.
"You will be safe here Sariku." she said as she placed the Medalion with the child. She then rang the gong before running off.
Inside the shrine an old monk had heard the gong and was curious about who was could be visiting at this hour. He opened the door to find a little baby girl. She had a half of a medalion with her. The monk picked it up. He couldn't tell what was on the front, so he turned it over. On the back was engraved a name.
"So, you are called Sariku." He said as he picked her up. Suddenly there was a roar in the distance followed by a scream. Sariku began to cry. The monk understood what just happened.

(Well thats it for the opening of the story. In the next chapter we will find out what will become of little Orin and maybe even meet a pirate.)
