I was watching a documentary called "Der taumelnde Kontinent" (the staggering continent) on German television, which was showing how people in spent their final few weeks before the outbreak of WWI.
Even though the storm was already coming, clear for almost anyone to see, still the party went on...until the horrible awakening.
This was the longest work I have ever done. That Picture is also slightly larger in size than what I normally do (the original is A3 size) and it took me almost 9 months to finish (with interruptions, of course). The medium is pencil, as usual, and I decided against the use of any coloring or other digital stuff on this. Just old School paper and pencil.
RIP to all those innoncent people who lost their lives, loved ones, youth or / and sanity during this horrifiying War.ORC'IDEE 2011 by Kateurn:uuid:18de62dd-06a6-f816-f33d-32b42086db2b2011-10-19T20:12:30-07:00"ORC'IDÉE 2011"
A poster I designed for a Swiss RPG Fair called "ORC'IDÉE". This edition was called "The twelve teeth of midnight" (there is a pun between "crocs" = “animal teeth” and "coups"= "clock strikes", --> French is fun, isn't it?) with a lot of horror RPGs...Including vampires, werewolves, witches and...my favorite baddie: Jack the Ripper!

As I do not have enough time anymore to draw during daytime, I started a new picture between 10.00pm - 3.00am and worked every night for a whole week. ^^
I am not a great fan of “The Tudors” Series, as I think that they take too much liberty with historical facts (sorry, there comes the Historian again ^^). But anyway, I am totally in love with the reconstitutions and, above all, with the period dresses *droooool* - I want one of them…hey, wait…I want ALL of them!Britney by punkaddicturn:uuid:ef52c596-0e39-92d0-81ea-4487394b3e0f2009-11-24T12:40:27-08:00This is a painting of Britney Spears:)Elisha Cuthbert by punkaddicturn:uuid:74494ae1-da84-5c66-cdbb-28009d53af292009-11-24T12:35:22-08:00This is a portrait of Elisha Cuthbert. I'm a huge "OMNIA" fan (a Pagan Folk band from the Netherlands). They have a harpist called Jenny who annoys everybody with her virtuosity.
Well, as I can't play the harp, I tried to draw it. It was my first harp and one of my very few pictures representing real people.Jean De Florette / Manon des Sources (1986) by Kateurn:uuid:f4983b84-5006-c06a-98ce-705e1a15c3702009-02-10T13:20:09-08:00Well, there is something new, a picture that took forever to finish. (as always ^^)
These are scenes from two movies adapted from the novels by French author Marcel Pagnol. They were shown in theatre in 1986, and Gérard Depardieu looks incredibly youg there ^^.
If you have the chance to watch them, GO AHEAD! I think that they have never been translated (I’m not sure about it), but subtitles DO exist :-).
Those very sad movies take place in Provence, Southern France, the first one in the 1910s and the sequel some ten years later. The big deal of the story is the eternal lack of water in those very dry areas…and what people are capable of doing to keep a fresh water spring for themselves. Water is worth killing for.Kiss me, Musketeer by Kateurn:uuid:35188201-11d4-6b56-03f2-a9e8d282f1822008-10-22T10:59:13-07:00Finally, a new piece of work…and one of my very few representing real people. He is my fencing teacher, she (his wife) is a professional ballet dancer who also does fencing.
A photograph (poor quality, alas) taken at a show in France was used as reference.

I was finally able to restore my old hard drive that crashed a while ago and found some old art. So yeah...it's an oldie...but I thought it was cute. My weak illustration of Spike and Ed. Enjoy!!

Oil painting of Christina Aguilera. The only part finished so far is just her face. I still need to complete her hair, top and background. Oil painting on illustration board. *ARGH!* - I am OBSESSED by this movie! And I normally HATE musicals! Now I keep singing all the time (and NO it did NOT start to rain while I was singing!)
Anyway...I finally finished Mrs. Lovett. She is my favourite character in the movie (Sorry to all you Sweeney Fans - He is very cool, too!).
This picture took a little less time than my usual work, because it is quite dark (the black spaces are not so difficult to do ;-)), even if the details on gloves, pies, dress and the London Street in the Background seemed to take forever.
Enjoy!

It is dark, really REALLY dark (even for a Burton) and extremely violent…but I love it. I must be mad.
This is the reason why I am really happy that I managed to finish this picture right on time for the Swiss release. It was really awful to draw (the details on tapestry, floor, trousers, etc…) and I am still not happy with the result.
Whatever. I hope you like it anyway. Elizabeth by Kateurn:uuid:1ac48d0c-9c83-fa00-4f3f-380251e637b82007-11-25T09:15:12-08:00 Well, this might be another of those drawing-phases I have from time to time: Even if I have no more spare time at all, even if I know that I must sleep or eat something, I can’t help drawing and I won’t get to bed or into the kitchen before I have not finished my picture.
I think I need a doc…or a psychiatrist…or both…or neither?
This is a pic I stumbled on as I had a look at the movie posters for upcoming movies in December.
You may have recognized (or at least, I hope you have) Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth, Queen of England.

It has been a while since my last Buffy picture and this is my first try to draw Tara. She was one of my favourite characters in the series and, of course, she had to die...just like most of my favourite characters do.

I was more or less “pulled into” a Crossover RPG, where characters from different movies, books and series had to deal with a very hostile environment…and with each other.
This was the first time I noticed how many things the characters of Sirius Black (Harry Potter) and Faith Lehane (Buffy) had in common: difficult childhood, endless battle against their parents, betrayed by a trusted person, locked away and an undeniable darker side.
…They would either rip each other to pieces or become the most rock’n roll double act in Crossover history. ^-^
I would like to believe in the second possibility.IN MEMORIAM - Hugh Fitzcairn by Kateurn:uuid:276335cf-da9e-92dd-4240-b230d45f79502006-11-23T10:18:39-08:00HELP!
I can’t stop drawing! What’s wrong with me???
Well, as I just finished this picture, I HAD to share it with you.
This is part of my old “IN MEMORIAM” series, dedicated to all those great movie, series, or book characters who where killed off much too soon and left their fans broken-hearted (Yes, I realize that they are “not real”, but I don’t want to talk about it…)
This is a character you might not know it you have never seen the “Highlander” Series but, as Fitz is one of my favourites, I finally drew him…
The picture is dedicated to Hugh Fitzcairn (played by Roger Daltrey), the craziest, most sympathetic and funniest Englishman who ever held a sword.

I thought that this picture would NEVER be finished! The pic was made for a Harry Potter Fanart contest, and even if the results are not published yet, it was fun to draw it…

Well…it has been a while since I have tried to do a Buffy pic…almost 5 years, I think.
While tidying up my room, I lately stumbled over my old Buffy tapes…and couldn’t help watching them again. This picture is a shot from the episode “The Body” , which was particularly terrible. Since this week was the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death, I thought I would post a drawing I did of him a few years ago. John was and still is very special to me and I still remember the day he died like it was yesterday. Many of the young people here probably weren't even born yet but believe me it was as big as the day John Kennedy was killed. It was a horrible day and I still cry every time I think about it. The reference for this drawing was a screen cap from the movie A Hard Day's Night. It was completed with Derwent soft graphite pencils ranging from 2b to 8b on heavy weight medium textured Strathmore paper. Once again my scanner tends to read the texture of the paper more than the subtle shading so it looks a little rough but I think you get an idea of the drawing. Please feel free to ask any questions. I will be happy to answer! Thanks for reading!Cowboy Bebop Thanksgiving! by TerryXarturn:uuid:ae566e42-3601-b33d-cb3f-f0ef179b5e902005-11-18T09:46:39-08:00This was a fun Cowboy Bebop sketch I did a few years ago as a Thanksgiving greeting on my website. This is a portrait of Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully from The X-Files I did a few years ago. Drawing was done with Derwent graphite pencils ranging from 2b to 8b on medium texture Strathmore drawing paper. I'm not big into yaoi but I received a request (and some money, yea!) to illustrate someone's Cowboy Bebop fan fic. This is a preliminary sketch I presented to her and she liked it. So next I have to ink & color and finish the background (right now it's just a VERY rough draft) I threw some mood lighting in with photoshop for now. But I wanted to get some feedback here to see if I should really continue with this piece. Like I said, I'm not a big fan of this genre so it's hard for me to draw. Of course, this is very tame compared to what I've seen *shudders*. Any comments or constructive criticism is welcomed. Thanks for looking. Hope I didn't gross anyone out! LOL!! I also have another pic for the same fan fic coming shortly. You've been warned!! LOL!!Cowboy Bebop -Living in a Dream by TerryXarturn:uuid:afcaa7b3-669d-1dd5-22f1-320490ca6dc02005-08-10T16:48:45-07:00This is a drawing I started a few years ago and never finished. I finally decided to try out my new Copic Markers, Micron Ink Pens and prismacolor pencils and then added some finishing touches with photo shop. The pic is based on Spike's feeling of living in a dream and knowing that he would die very soon. Faye comes to him as an angel in his dream (yeah, I know, kind of corny) but I always felt that under all their fighting and bickering, they really did care for each other. They were just too stubborn to admit it. Just my opinion. I know that Bebop can be interpreted many different ways. Oh well, hope you like it! Then, I coated it in black acrylic, and wiped most of it away. Then, I painted a gold metallic paint over it, and came out with that antiqued look. I then hot-glued a thin leather strip to use as a cord to the back so I didn't have to make an unattractive loop at the top of the coin to wear it. This is one I did of the X-Files Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. I was never really finished and I had so much trouble with it (I see all the mistakes and problems in it). I'm still learning to oil paint and this was one of the early projects I did for my oil painting class. The reference was from the promotional posters for the X-Files Fight The Future movie.
Here is the boring technical info: I drew the images in pencil first and then protected the sketch with a clear coat of matte medium. After that, I painted a light glaze of watered-down acrylics to plot out the base colors and then finally painted the finished colors and details with oil paint with various size brushes on a 20x15 Bainbridge cold press illustration board. The reference poster had a sepia tone over their faces so I decided to keep that color theme with the painting. I wanted the center "X" symbol to sort of "glow" but I couldn't get the effect I was looking for. It took me so long to work on this picture that I basically said "that's it! I've had enough!" and left it alone. After it dried, I sprayed a few coats of clear acrylic varnish to even out the textures/tones of the painting (some of it dried with a matte finish while some of it dried with a glossy finish). The varnish helped to even that out but I noticed it could use a few more coats around Mulder's head. I then realized I never even signed the painting!! I guess I felt it was never finished but at this point...it is!! LOL!! So I guess I can finally sign it!
Lastly, to make matters even more difficult, the painting did not fit in my scanner so I had to wait for an overcast day and use my digital camera to take a picture of the painting outside. I never get a nice clear, crisp pic with a digital camera (at least not with mine!) so it looks kind of grainy and lost some details. Oh well...I think you can get an idea of what it looks like but it looks much better in person. Okay, I'll stop babbling now. Enjoy!Cowboy Bebop Halloween by TerryXarturn:uuid:30662d34-3bf2-f938-448f-de316a47bd432004-11-11T17:41:23-08:00I'm not very good at illustration/anime art but I love the medium! I did this sketch of Spike & Ed for Halloween and tried to add color with PhotoShop. Sorry it's not better but I thought it was fun! Hope you enjoy something different from me! Happy Halloween!Gillian Anderson & David Duchovny by TerryXarturn:uuid:af34491a-b50b-64a8-2637-a4d922d958c02004-11-10T12:54:10-08:00Again, it's been a while since I submitted due to my recent surgery. This is a pic I did last year as a Xmas gift of Gillian Anderson & David Duchovny aka Agent Scully & Mulder of the X-Files. I'm a huge X-Files fan myself and love to draw them. The reference photo was from a TV Guide spread when the series ended. I loved this photo so much I just had to draw it. It's done on 11x17 medium texture Strathmore paper with graphite pencils ranging from 2b to 8b. They were both wearing white shirts and I decided not to put too much detail into their clothes and concentrate on their faces & hands instead. Unfortunately, some of it got cut off in the scanner. But you get the idea. Thank you again for all your lovely comments. I really appreciate it.
