I did this over a decade ago, but I couldn't throw it out... I believe I was reading several fantasy novels including the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, but also some Forgotten Realms, and possibly some Piers Anthony...  Plus my gramma said that one time when I slept over I was singing and laughing in my sleep.

The expression of this child touched me: she seemed to be showing me an emotion I was familiar with (I drew it from an ad for The Children's Wish Foundation). This picture is a somewhat autobiographical. Some children need their imaginations to save them from the dark, and not necessarily the dark that surrounds them at night.

Anyway, I did have some worn out spots on this old treasure, some still visible, so I sort of fixed up the worst of them on my paint program.  I do apologize about the pillow section as it caused me a bit of grief...  I'm just leaving it, so I don't mess it up worse...

AriaGunnirYou have done well, young grasshopper...  Yes, I had some nasty bent sections and some scratches because of how old this thing is, so I messed with it a little

RabbiSpitanikVery nice. The shading on the hair is amazing, looks like it took forever! I like what you said about children sometimes needing their imagination to distract themselves from the dark. Keep up the good work!

AriaGunnirI can't remember how long it took me, because I think I enjoyed drawing it so much. I used to draw and draw for hours nonstop since I was a child... I've just recently taken it up again more seriously....  I've never completely stopped, just never put aside time specifically until lately, to draw...

TheTangoMaureenThat is an amazing piece of art. It's almost a poem too, hte way she looks a little deppressed but her fantasies (almost like she is dreaming?) are what keeps her going. HOW DO YOU DRAW REALISTIC HAIR!?

AriaGunnirThank you very much: actually I got the girl's face from a magazine ad for The Children's Wish Foundation. Realistic hair? Well, it is a bit painstaking sometimes, especially with lighter coloured hair, but there are blocks/areas of light and chunks of really dark. Just around the outside edge of the areas of really dark areas there are fine light lines where some of the hair is still being hit by a light source. At the same time, in areas of really light sections, there are some hairs that are not being hit as directly by the same light source. Here are a few links that may be helpful: http://homepages.tesco.net/p.wilkinson/DrawingHair.htm

jiraA wondrous rendition, displaying a fine technique and penciled detail work! I've been gone for a while, but this piece of artwork makes coming back a pleasure... This is going on my favorite list!

AriaGunnir*blushes*  Thank you very much!  I also welcome crtiique on my pictures as long as it details what I can do to make the picture better.  For example, I had a little trouble with CITRUS, and I had a lot of help from several people (you'll see who in the description of that picture).  I don't think I could completely rescue it, but it wasn't bad.  Thanks for visiting my gallery, and I will see you in the Forums!  *waves*  Welcome back!

AriaGunnirThanks much!  That's why I couldn't get rid of it: it's been locked up in my art case for years...  I figured this is a great place to blow off the dust and give it something to do, the poor thing.

AriaGunnirGood ol' Spleetog!  Thanks very much... Actually this is much smaller than the original (original was about 3 & 1/2 feet by 2ish) and was in storage for such a long time; I actually did some creative editing on the computer and cut off the edges more because of the wear and tear and bend marks...  It's seen better days and has faded a bit, but thank you very much for your comment!  8)
