The Killing Grounds

The Saiyan Confederation forces had suffered the greatest amount of casualties during the entire Valorian Campaign. It was estimated that out of the four combined forces of the Saiyan Confederation, 78% of the forces engaged had been killed, or wounded. 71% of that total had been killed. The vast fields west of Gombria, known as “The Killing Grounds” had seen most of the ferocity of battle for the entire nine hours that both Saiyan and Imperial forces were engaged. The 47th western army, under the command of General Eaps, which once consisted of 500,000 Saiyan warriors, had only 198,000 emerge unharmed. 62% had fallen in less than ten minutes. The 13th western army, who had felt the full bulk of Imperial resistance, lost 100%. No other army within the Saiyan Confederation had endured so many casualties, let alone total genocide.<br />
The countryside grew quiet when news of Gombria reached the northern Saiyan counties of the planet Bardock. Ten years earlier, the 7th Northern Army, under the command of General Takali, had been assembled with 500,000 Saiyan warriors to help aid in foreign confrontations. By the time Gombria broke out, there were still an estimated 497,000 Saiyan warriors inhabiting the 7th’s ranks. By the end of the first few hours of fighting, there were 50,000 men left. By the end of the battle, there were only 3.<br />

“I never would have thought that such atrocity and death could reign upon the noble Saiyan warrior. The thought of Saiyan might and invincibility has been replaced with the thoughts of Saiyan frailty and vulnerability. The aspect of the invincible Saiyan has forever changed me when I saw millions of my brethren slain upon the fields of Gombria. My eyes have been open to realize that we are just as mortal as all other things within this vast universe. What a terrible burden has been placed upon those who have started this unholy war.”<br />
