MEDUSA: She was the beautiful daughter of the sea titans Porcys and Ceto. Medusa was the youngest of three sisters Stheno and Euryale; they were priestesses in the temple of Athena. In a blasphemous act the sea god Poseidon smitten by Medusa, raped the priestess in the very temple of Athena. This action so enraged the goddess Athena that she blamed the victim, turning Medusa and her two sisters into hideous creatures with snakes for hair and a gaze that turns mortals to stone. These beasts were known as the Gorgons. When Perseus beheaded Medusa, out of her blood sprang the winged stallion Pegasus and the giant horse being Chrysaor (wearing full body armor) fathered by Poseidon... The more intriguing the subject, the more I enjoy drawing it...

jiraYou know what they say about "Beauty is in the eye's of the beholder"... I guess the same can be said for the level of monstrous appearences...

Thank you for your comments!

Spirit99Damn, I love Medusa. She's so COOL! Although, I think you drew her to pretty. Isan't she sapose to be one ugly frack? Oh well, I still love it. Your drew her tail with such detail. LOVIES it ;O;

jiraSeems you done quite a bit of myth reading and research! It's always good to be appreciated by people who are aware that there's always more then one interpretation where myths are concern...

Black_BreezeThere are two different stories for Medusa, and I always thought this story was more accurate to history. I love how you drew her! That looks so much like her that I was afraid that I was gonna turn into stone! ^_^

jiraThank you for your opinion, but if you check the chronological time period in Greek/Roman mythology you'll discover that Medusa is actually the grandmother of Echidna by her son Chrysaor and Callirhoe... The moniker “Queen of the monsters” derived from the TV “Hercules series" (not myth texts)... But Medusa’s granddaughter did spawned four monstrous offsprings with Typhon (a Titan) and when most people think of myth monsters, 9 out of 10 will mention Medusa’s name... Just though I’d share that, thank you…

Nate_SindelIt is true that Medusa and the other Gorgons were feared throughout the land, but she was not the queen of the monsters. Echidna, a half woman/half snake creature was mother, and queen, of monsters.

It's a great picture, just thought you'd like to know who the true queen of monsters was.
