This is a contest submission for orianajones's Cheap Materials Contest. She was having trouble getting contestants, and since the new age for FAC is contests, it was my obligation to help out. -OR it could have been because my art style stems from unbearable cheapness anyway. Go ahead and look at her contest!

I decided to really limit myself, so I used red/black permanent marker, yellow/blue/orange highlighter, red ballpoint pen, and white out on cardboard. The cardboard soaked up the highlighter and even whiteout, so I had to go over the picture with the same colors many times to get a decent effect. ;__;

I remember drawing this picture in an academically depressed mood (I have many of those). Just know that there are many things that can get you down. You just have to be strong enough to overtake them with your own strength and perseverance, no one else's; if you can achieve that, you will get far.

luckylace222Awww, man! Sorry about that! I think that was just my sad mood escaping into words on the picture! If I could take out "raincloud" and "of," and leave "intervention," the picture could speak for itself. I think raincloud was just expressing some depressing feelings at the time. Somehow, this picture speaks to me .

Thank you for the comment!

RubiusYou do realize I'm a guy...right?

And I can't think of anyone who is too cool to have an opening at an art gallery.  I know a few people who are too stuck up, but you don't strike me as that type of person.  ^-^

luckylace222OH, I AM STUCK UP DUDE

No, I just wanted to call you a 'gurl" because that is the ony way I know ho to start stuck-up comments! HAHAH hola Rubius. You and I need to start up an art trade to get you back up again! AND THAT STORY! NOW! I need to read some!

RubiusOkay...well, I suppose I do know very little about you, so you could very well be stuck up.  :P  I have been drawing, but everything is a bit more hardcore than this site will allow.  I am drawing, just not posting anything here, right now.  As for the story, I have run into some complications with the plot.  I know how I want the story to begin and end, but the middle is just pure muck right now.  I need to sit down and organize all my main plot points and get this thing moving.  It would be nice if I could publish it, but they wouldn't publish it if I have posted it somewhere.  I will have to mull my options.  ^-^

alitta2Awesome details, no doubt about it :) The whole picture has a kind of noir feeling, but maybe it's not the most convenient word for it. At first sight, some words came to my mind like depression, anger, fear and hopelessness, so I mean the combination of these when I think on noir feeling.

MadamePenguinWHAT DOES TITLE MEANS?!!?!?!!!!!
anyways, nice job on the cardboard because I know how it is to work with it. Try using just a paint medium on your next cardboard piece because the wetness of the paint brings out the criss-cross texture that holds the cardboard together like the one in my room

luckylace222WHEN I FINISH A PICTURE, I JUST MAKE UP WORDS THAT I THINK DESCRIBE IT I DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT INTERVENTION MEANS (looked it up: 1. the act or fact of interfering so as to modify. 2. any measure whose purpose is to improve health or alter the course of disease)

Heyyy, you have worked with cardboard before? Niiiiceee, Stephanie. OH!!! Those giant paintings in your house are drawn on cardboard?! WHOA!! I can see how the paint is thick enough, but god dang it, my cardboard was the size of ordinary copy paper. -And you know me Steph. I DO NOT PAINT- I WILL HURT MYSELLLFFF Just kidding. Yeah, I should move to painting sometime with bigger canvases. When I am nearby, I will ask you for advice with the next painting technique.

Thanks for the comment!

MadamePenguinYeah I do a lot of cardboard work, but I'm not willing to sell them until I find a better way to preserve the board itself so the paint doesn't fade. I was offered around $75 for the one in my room, but that was way back in high school where people with money thought they could scam me though I would of accepted it anyways in case the material did fade.
When you come over to make your cake, we can paint together on the cardboard :D Not all the piece hanging up around the house are cardboard though. One is on regular paper while the others are small canvas. It takes a lot of acryllic/tempura paint to cover up the board well, but the trade-off is cool texture.
