Chapter 14 - A time to rest

With Arachnophobia completely liquidated, except for the mysterious Aku and Kishin Oni, Shinigami labelled the battle a success despite the overwhelming fact the Kishin was awakened, which in many people’s minds was the soul purpose of the mission.[br]
Many people were injured in the conflict, so Shinigami ordered that for all who participated in the battle are not allowed to go on any missions until they are fully healed.[br]
No one complained as everyone just wanted to just relax after such an ordeal, but for Stein and his team, Mifune and Sid, rest was not an option as not only was a Kishin roaming around the world somewhere but also Aku was someone who could but a real wrench in Shibusen’s works.[br]

Mifune and Sid requested to speak to Shinigami about the situation with Aku, but all they got was an order to leave him alone for now and to also leave the Kishin be alone as well.[br]
If Shinigami had a plan this was certainly an odd one. To not only ignore Aku, but to ignore the Kishin? Something was brewing in Shinigami’s head.[br]

Some time had passed since the battle with Arachnophobia and most of the people who took part in the battle where now ready to carry out missions again. For Shinigami, now was the time to carry out his plan that had been brewing in his head since the Kishin’s awakening. He asked Maka, Soul, Black Star, Tsubaki, Kidd, Patti and Liz to come and see him.[br]

“Wonder what he wants?” Soul asked everyone[br]
“Maybe it’s about the Kishin? He has been on edge since we failed to destroy it” Maka answered[br]
“Hmm maybe” replied Soul[br]
“What’s wrong Soul?” Black Star enquired[br]
“I might be wrong but, don’t you guys think something is up?” Soul said sounding rather worried “I mean since the Kishin got away he’s been acting all tense and stuff. This is my opinion but I think something is just not right with him”[br]
Soul’s words rung home to everyone that was with him. Indeed they have noticed a change in Shinigami-sama’s attitude and it was beginning to unnerve plenty of people.[br]
“I know my father has been acting strange lately” Kidd spoke out “But he has good reason to be. He just feels that now is not the time to explain things to everyone yet”[br]
“What do you mean Kidd” Tsubaki asked[br]
“I mean that if he wanted us to know something he would tell us and if he felt that it would be safer for us to be in the dark about things then so be it”[br]
“You know something don’t you Kidd” Black Star said grabbing the collar of Kidd’s suit “Out with it, what do you know about what’s wrong the Shinigami-sama?”[br]
Kidd forced Black Star off of him before he spoke again “I can’t tell you, but I will say this. We might be seeing my father in a new light soon”[br]
“What do you mean?” Maka asked[br]
“I mean….. I’m sorry I really can’t tell, just let my father tell you himself when he feels good and ready” Kidd replied placing a hand on his forehead[br]
Everyone then just stopped pestering Kidd for answers after that as in they end he was right.[br]
[br]
The group eventually reached the Death Room where Shinigami-sama was usually found to be in. He seemed in a good mood, but then it was hard to tell if he was for real or acting.[br]
“Good morning everyone. How are you all feeling today?” Shinigami said rather cheerfully[br]
“Were feeling good today Shinigami-Sama” Everyone replied[br]
“Good good. Well then let’s get down to business shall we”[br]

Meanwhile somewhere in the world, Aku was bussing himself keeping the Kishin alive after Stein had used two devastating Soul purges on her.[br]
“How are you feeling, Lady Oni” Aku asked bringing in a tray with cups of tea on it[br]
Kishin Oni stood out of her bed and said “I’m feeling much better today, but I still feel like I’m not in full strength”[br]
“That is understandable. You were released prematurely and as such a remnant part of the original inhabitant’s soul still remains. Obviously you are not going to be able to wield all of you power until you rid yourself of this other you quickly”[br]
“How do I do that?” she said taking a cup of tea from the tray[br]
“Well, I do know some soul removing techniques but that would kill you in your case, so I suggest using a skill I call a literal soul search”[br]
“A literal Soul Search?”[br]
“That’s right. I will place you in a coma and you will wake up in another dimension, within your own soul. All you have to do is locate the other you and well tell her to submit to you”[br]
“Submit? Why can’t I kill the other me?”[br]
“Because if you do, you also kill yourself”[br]
Oni felt rather ashamed of her outburst as she should have already knew that by now[br]
“If you can make the other you submit to you then you will be able to utilise all of the power that was bestowed upon you. Eventually the other you will wither away gradually and you will be able to fight a person like Stein without fear of his Soul Purge reeking havoc on you”[br]
“I see. Then lets get on with this Soul Search technique of yours”[br]
“It takes time, I’m afraid. So in the mean time just rest and I will comeback to you when where ready to proceed[br]
“How long will you be to get ready?”[br]
“Not to long now, I’ve been preparing since I brought you here to rest, so I’d say within the hour”[br]
Oni smiled “Good to hear”[br]
[br]
Back at Shibusen[br]
“Honourable father are you serious?” Kidd gasped in shock[br]
“Yes I am serious” Shinigami replied “You see I’ve been working on it since Asura died and lately it has shown signs of working. But now it works”[br]
“So that explains why you’ve been so on edge recently” Maka sighed with relief[br]
“Yes and I’m sorry for making you all worry”[br]
“That’s quite alright” said Tsubaki “But don’t you think everyone in Death City should know?”[br]
“No, only the best of Shibusen and my closest companions are allowed to know this. So for the mean time keep quite about this.[br]
“You can count on us Shinigami-sama” Black Star cheered[br]
“I hope I can”[br]
With the meeting over. Maka and the others left Shinigami alone with his death scythe Spirit, who was also Maka’s father.[br]
[br]
“Think you can find the Kishin, Shinigami-sama?” Spirit enquired[br]
“Definably. If I know that man, who is calling himself Aku, as well as I think I do, then finding the Kishin will prove little trouble.” Shinigami answered[br]
“I see, well lets hope she can be taken care of before the worst of her powers come out”[br]
“Let’s hope indeed”[br]
[br]
Back at the hiding place of Aku and Kishin Oni. The preparations for the Soul Search technique is about to get underway within a large room with a complex circular drawing on the floor[br]
“Are you ready for this Lady Oni?” Aku asked[br]
“Just hurry up, I want to use my power to their fullest” Oni hissed[br]
“Then we shall begin. Step into the soul circle”[br]
Oni did as she was told and readied herself for what was to come[br]
Aku then started to use some unknown chant and after awhile Oni began to fall into a deep sleep. Not only that, but while under the induced coma she was levitating horizontally to the floor.[br]
Once Oni was floating in midair, Aku walked up to her and said to her “If you can hear my voice. Go in search of the other you and force her to submit to your will, only then may you have the power that will make you unstoppable”[br]
