Chapter 18 - City under seige
Maka, Soul and Blair were in their apartment relaxing. Maka was reading a book, with Blair having a catnap on her lap. Soul was watching T.V. but he looked more like he was asleep in front of it.[br]
The atmosphere was very calm and peaceful. That was until a Lost Soul burst through the front door.[br]
The crash it made when it entered the room startled Maka and she stood up, Blair woke up only cause Maka suddenly stood up and dropped her to the floor – thankfully cats always land on their feet. Soul woke up with a start and looked to see what was causing the commotion.[br]
“What the hell was that?” Soul shouted, a little irritated that someone woke him up from his nap[br]
A growl from the Lost Soul was enough to answer Soul’s question “What the hell is that?” he asked feeling a tinge if fear[br]
“Who cares what it is Soul” Maka shouted, “It’s invading our home. Hurry turn into a scythe and help me get rid of it”[br]
“No arguing with that order”[br]
Soul turned into his scythe weapon mode and Maka took hold of him and ready for combat.[br]
Blair let out a yawn and walked up to the Lost Soul, father unafraid of it.[br]
“Blair where are you going, don’t go near that thing” Maka stressed, watching Blair approach the monster[br]
“I don’t like being woken from my catnaps Maka. So leave this thing to me”[br]
“Huh?”[br]
"Pump-Pumpkin, Pumpkin". Blair chanted as she lifter up one of her front paws. Very quickly a magic pumpkin appeared and then hurled itself into the Lost Soul, evectivly killing it. “See no problem”[br]
Maka and Soul were a little stunned that Blair killed the beast, but were also somewhat relieved that they didn’t have to fight.[br]
[br]
Just when they thought it was going to be all piece and quiet again. The three found themselves suddenly surounded by more Lost Souls[br]
“Think you can handle this many Blair?” Questioned Maka[br]
“Not in my cat form I can’t” She replied and she transformed into her human form “But like this, these things are no problem”[br]
The three then went all out against the Lost Souls, with Blair using her pumpkin themed magic, and Maka – whom is wielding Soul – carved up any Lost Soul that got close to her.[br]
[br]
Elsewhere in Death City. Mifune, Angela – the little witch – Black Star, Tsubaki and Crona were training together at Mifune’s new residence in Death City.[br]
Angela only watched as she was still inexpreienced in magic ans was also to young to train with the others.[br]
Tsubaki was already in her ninja sword weapon form and was already wielded by Black Star as he dueled with both Crona and Mifune.[br]
Crona was obvious the weaker of the three but she was able to hold her own thanks to Mifune’s teachings.[br]
While they fought in their training duel, they failed to notice that a Lost Soul had appeared in the room. It was Angela that was to notice it and she screamed when she did.[br]
As the others heard the scream they quickly realised why, as they too saw the Lost Soul.[br]
“Can anyone explian what that is?” Mifune asked[br]
No one answered as they were all clueless as to what this being was.[br]
[br]
The Lost Soul sensing an opportunity to strike, made a beeline towards Angela in an attempt to kill her. But Mifune quickly noticed this and counterd the path of the Lost Soul by throwing one of his many swords into it. Effectivly killing it.[br]
“Well that was easy” he said to himself. But he was to quiklcy realise that there was more then one of these stragne beasts. The room was packed with them and the group was surrounded. By this point Angela was clinging to Mifune’s leg out of fear of being eaten.[br]
“Looks like we’ve got our work cut out for us” Mifune stated, readying himself for combat[br]
“Heh. If these things think they can stop me? They got a another think coming” Black Star boasted, happy at the thought of fighting a real battle with so many opponents[br]
Crona was unsure of what to do, as she never seen these creatures and was looking rather afraid to move[br]
“Crona!” Shouted Mifune “Ready yourself for combat”[br]
“B-but I don’t know how to deal with this” Crona stutterd, reafearing to the Lost Souls[br]
“The best way to deal with them Crona is to just fight and kill them” [br]
Crona looked more cinfudent in herslef and said “Just fight and kill them? Okay”[br]
She then got into her fighting stance and was ready for whatever the Lost Souls could throw.[br]
The group then entered the fight of their lives as they cut up every Lost Soul that would dare to attack.[br]
[br]
In another location within Death City, at the Shinigami residence. Death the Kid was already beating the daylights out of Lost Souls with the aid of Liz and Patti – whom where in their twin pistol weapon form.[br]
“These guys just seem to go on forever” Kidd notified himself as he kept blasting away at the seemingly endless barrage of Lost Souls[br]
“Hey Kidd, don’t you think we should be heading into one of Shibusen’s safe heavens right now?” Liz suggested[br]
“I would be heading there already it these things were not in our way”[br]
“Good point”[br]
“We’re gonna have to hold our own until help comes, or we’ve blasted through all of these things”[br]
[br]
Everywhere throughout Death City it was the same story. Lost Soul where appearing left, right and centre and where carving a path of death and devestation in their wake, if you were not including the ones that were fighting Miesters and Weapons.[br]
Oni was enjoying every moment of this carnage. In fact she loved the destrcution so much that she forced a Lost Soul to trun into a makeshift chair for her to sit on and watch the chaos unfold.[br]
This is so much fun she thought watching the massacre of civilians and the demolition of buildings When this is all over, Shinigami and his precious Shibusen will be nothing more then dust under my foot[br]
“I think it’s time that I entered the fray of this battle,” she said to herself as she stood up from her Lost Soul chair “Alright you lot. Follow me”[br]
The Lost Souls immediately followed her command and followed her towards Death City, which was now in a state of total ruin, with flames and thick smoke reaching high into the sky.[br]
[br]
Oni was taking her sweet time in getting to Death City. By the time she reached it, a whole day had passed and most of the inhabitants were either already within the safe walls of Shinigami’s Death Weapon Miester Academy, or were dead.[br]
All in all, when Kishin Oni arrived within Death City, she basically marched in unopposed.[br]
[br]
By this point in the siege, Maka, Soul, Tsubaki and the others were inside the DWMA awaiting further orders from Shinigami. Everyone all had their share of battle scars from either rescuing civilians or just fighting the Lost Souls[br]
[br]
Shinigami’s voiced then boomed over the internal loud speak and said “ Attention everyone! As you all know Shibusen and Death City is under attack from Kishin Oni and her infernal Lost Soul army” Shinigami’s voice was not in his usual comic and carefree tone, it was in his serious and deathly scary tone now “I want all non, combatants to enter the safe heavens dotted within the academy and I want all Meisters and Weapons to guard each location with everything they have. Maka and Soul I want you all to report to me at the Death Room immediately. I have a special assignment for you both. Everyone else do as you’ve been instructed and obey the commands of your superiors. That is all”[br]
[br]
Maka and Soul were clueless as to what Shinigami wanted with them, but with the situation as it was; they didn’t really want to argue. Oni was literally at their door and could burst into the academy at anytime; this was what sent fear through every person that was still alive within the academy, and this was what forced them to obey everything that they were told to do.[br]
Stein and Sid were the ones who were in charge of organising who went were and who guarded whom. Asuza was originally the one to do this, but with the chaos of the surprise attack, she was unable to formulate any kind of defence strategy and basically forced everyone to follow his or her own individual instincts, as well as herself.[br]
[br]
In the Death Room, Shinigami and his Death Scythe Spirit were awaiting the arrival of Maka and Soul. While they waited, the two conversed with one another.[br]
“You sure about this Shinigami-sama?” Spirit asked, with concern in his voice[br]
“You and I both know that in my present condition, I stand almost little chance of killing Kishin Oni” Shinigami replied[br]
Spirit had to protest to this answer “But in Oni’s present condition she will kill Maka and Soul if they fight. Surely you know that”[br]
Shinigami nodded “I do, but they know how to use the Kishin Hunter and it is for that reason that I have placed them on this assignment.”[br]
“But you’re placing my daughter in harms way by doing this”[br]
“Is it any different when she placed herself in harms way to kill Kishin Asura?”[br]
“Well no, but still”[br]
“I understand your concern Spirit-kun. But right now we need to take advantage of every power in our arsenal and Maka and Soul are at present the best defence we have”[br]
Spirit understood all too well what Shinigami was saying, but being the father of Maka, he still felt the need to keep her away from danger.[br]
[br]
Maka and Soul finally arrived at the Death Room, the two were panting away as it was evident that they ran to get here quickly[br]
“You wanted to see us Shinigami-sama?” Maka blurted out, trying to catch her breath.[br]
“Yes I did want to see you two” Shinigami replied “Now lets cuts straight to the chase as time is evidently short. You two know how to utilise the Kishin Hunter, so as such you two are to be in charge of guarding the entrance to the Death Room”[br]
“Shinigami-sama?” Maka gasped[br]
“You are the last line of defence before the Kishin can reach here. I know it sounds almost cowardice of me to do this but if you can injure Oni, damage her in anyway, it will give me a better edge in combating her later”[br]
Indeed, this order did sound cowardice, but everyone knew that if Shinigami were to fight Oni now, it would spell disaster.[br]
“Understood Shinigami-sama” Maka replied, almost giving a salute[br]
“Leave her to us” Soul added[br]
“Good luck to you both. I pray that you succeed. Remember, even if you can’t kill her, just cause her some heavy damage and that will be enough”[br]
Maka nodded and then looked at her father. Although the two never got along very well, deep down they still cared.[br]
Spirit had the look of despair written all over his face, but that didn’t mean he tried to put on a brave face in front of his daughter “Maka, please don’t do anything I wouldn’t do and show that Kishin who’s boss”[br]
Maka smiled meekly “Don’t worry I will”[br]
With the that Maka and Soul left the Death Room and then guarded its entrance.[br]
[br]
Outside the academy, Oni was trying to breech the main doorway in, but she was little luck.[br]
God damn it she thought, kicking the door This damned thing won’t open. She paused for a moment to try and think of a solution to her problem, to try and break down the heavily reinforced – and somewhat Kishin proof- door of the academy. She looked to her Lost Soul army and an idea struck her.[br]
Yes that might work she thought as she beckoned some of her monsters slaves over to her. “Right you lot merge and become a giant Lost Soul”[br]
The creatures agreed and about ten of then merged together as one massive Lost Soul monster.[br]
“Excellent” Oni smiled “Now smash that door wide open” Needless to say the giant Lost Soul did exactly as it was told and systematically ripped apart the door till it was ripped from its hinges[br]
“Good work” Oni praised “Now everyone, infiltrate the DWMA and kill all you find. Leave Shinigami to me”[br]
An echo of roars and growls signalled that the Lost Souls understood the order and poured into the academy with the intention of seeking out any survivors from Death City[br]
[br]
Inside one of the Safe heavens, Stien and Sid were guarding the civilians that were inside. Stein felt the need to ask the question “Why did Shinigami-sama asked Maka and Soul to report to him?”[br]
Sid turned and said “I think he wants them to use their Kishin Hunter on Oni, before she has a chance to reach Shinigami-sama”[br]
Stein was stunned “I never knew they had that ability”[br]
Sid nodded “Well they do”[br]
“Damn it, if I have known Maka and Soul were capable of Kishin Hunter I would have sent her to kill Oni before she woke up from her slumber back at the Arachnophobia base”[br]
“No use worrying about that now. We have to keep in mind what we have to do now”[br]
“Yes I suppose your right about that”[br]
Just as those words left Steins mouth, a Lost Soul broke into the safe heaven.[br]
“Time to get to work Stein” Sid as he and Stein moved to intercept the Lost Souls that were marching into the safe heaven.[br]
[br]
Somewhere else in the academy, Kishin Oni was following the wavelength of her nemesis, Shinigami, to locate where he was hiding. She eventually found the corridor leading to the Death Room, the room where she felt that Shinigami was hiding. Because of her Lost Soul army, she was practically unchallenged in reaching it. As she walked down the strange corridor, with overhanging decapitation devices, Oni felt another presence within the seemingly endless corridor.[br]
“Where you hoping that you would just walk in without having to fight you little b**ch” A voice echoed[br]
“Show yourself whoever you are?” Oni demanded[br]
Stepping out of the shadows were Maka and Soul and the two looked ready to fight.[br]
Oni merely grinned, “Oh it’s you two. Wanting to get another trashing like before?”[br]
“Shut up” Maka snapped, as Soul turned into a Scythe. “I’m gonna end you right here right now”[br]
“Is that so? Well you better put your money where your mouth is, because when I’m done with you, your gonna wish that you died the last time we met”[br]
Oni and Maka were now in a face off, ready for whatever the other could throw.[br]
