Chapter 1 - Behind Your Pretty Little Smile

Underneath the designer wear and pretty hair, there is a person with insecurities. Written in response to my friend dropping from a size ten to size eight, saying that she is fat, and denying that I am. I want to give her something to cry about.

Chapter 1 - Behind Your Pretty Little Smile

Chapter 1 - Behind Your Pretty Little Smile
Beneath your pretty little smile
And perfectly groomed hair
Lies a human being.
The make up that cakes you
Hides only superficial
Blemishes.

Like those not as appealing as you,
Without the designer labels,
You are laid bare.
I see into your soul,
Past your fake little
Laughs.

You radiate confidence you do
Not have, sadness settling in
When you’re alone.
I frenzy over how
You find everything wrong with
A perfect body.

Many envy your curves and graces;
An ideal body size; the
Perfect weight and smile.
I tear out your hair and
Rip out your smile, and you
Are perfect no more.
