But I think it's coming together ok so far. :) All the major stuff's blocked in it's just building on more color and texture at this point - maybe add some more detail to the wall carvings, too, depending on time constraints. It's a little smaller resolution than I originally meant it to be, because of issues converting it from a cell phone photo, but I figure I can still post it and get a higher-rez version for myself later?]]>L'Engle Tribute by Firielurn:uuid:a1fce111-3fe1-e515-fbf4-31951ac881952017-02-10T01:52:40-08:00I had a go at a Madeleine L’Engle tribute in acrylic paints. It... didn’t wind up looking quite like my ref photo, but it’s closer than it was when I started? ;) Surrounding bits are mostly from the first two in the Time Quartet and A Ring of Endless Light. :)
Reference for herself was a kind of low-res scan of a biography cover - it was the only color ref I could get for her with my current resources. At first I thought it was a photograph. Then I was told no, that's no photo - somebody made that. Your family made that. Your Great Granny O. was a painter, and she was self-taught, and never picked up a brush until she was all grown up - went out for walks on the seashore and took pictures, came home and copied them on her canvas. Then I went to my grandparents' for the first time I could remember, and there were more of those paintings on their walls - blue skies and storm clouds, wind and surf - family heirlooms made by my kin, her art in my blood.
Landscapes aren't a thing I do much, but I wanted to do something like this for this Ocean prompt, kind of for her - my photograph taken walking down the coast, my seacoast copied like an echo of one of the first artists I knew was a person like me making wonders, rather than somebody strange and famous and unobtainable.
The hardcopy is going to my grandparents for Christmas. Maybe, if I'm really lucky, it might go on their walls near one of those pieces by Great Granny O.]]>Winters Death by Firielurn:uuid:d817a5d3-952c-cf54-1d81-e881ffa93cfa2016-12-03T08:10:47-08:00I finished it.
I actually, really finished it.
Markers - mostly Sharpie and Prismacolor -
Reffed from multiple lions both googled and screencapped from nature docs, googled landscapes, googled British Kingfishers crossed with Baynes' paradise birds illustrations from The Silver Chair, personal photos of flowers, Baynes' takes (colored and uncolored) on the girls crossed with personal photos of children from my family's church, Baynes' take on the Witch's castle, a color-altered eye from a makeup tutorial, and the cracked leather surface of one of my journals.
Made with love, daydreams, panic, and more probably pretentious amounts of symbolism.

My Shadow Peophin Just1n1us and his guard-Tencals Moondust (who he found on his first trip up to Kreludor) chilling in the library at night. All of the books on the shelves are ones he has read in-game.
I'm filing him under "Normal" rather than "Anthro," because although he's in clothes, I haven't humanized him any farther than in-game format already does - still maintains his hooves, fore-knee posture, horsey face and mane...]]>Inktober19 - hanging lamp by Firielurn:uuid:e7738ab1-37ef-b51d-f664-468a4d4eab092016-10-23T18:00:39-07:00livesketch

reffed from a screenshot near the end of Season 1, Rising, pt 2 which I was re-watching this evening... one of my weaknesses as an artist is how long I always take on everything. Yeah.) So, somebody I've been running into online keeps headcanon-dumping for a one-season cartoon called Motorcity, and I finally got curious enough about the thing to hunt it up. It's big and loud and colorful and over-the-top, but for the first three episodes I was still kind of "huh. I can see how it might be entertaining, but I'm not getting any emotional connection? At all?" And then I met this lady... And suddenly I'm actually becoming interested. I mean, "the extremist with understandable motivations but man you're taking things too far" has been done before of course, but it makes things MEAN more to have a problem that's not going to be easily mopped up at the end of the day - no magical tech fixes for the underlying issues - and having the knowledge that the stuff that drove her to this point was already going on in the background while our crazy point-and-click weather and slobbery robot-wardogs and copy-paste-weather were hamming it up earlier.
