Chapter 1 - Welcome to The Matrix

We got two more, Lutec! a man called.
Let me see, a woman said. She was tall and thin, had long black hair and wore a black T-Shirt and trousers.
The man rolled the two bodies onto their backs.
Byte, what are they? Lutec frowned.
Theyre human- Yes, I know that! I meant: age, hometown, height, weight, all that junk, She cut in.
Byte ran over to a computer and pressed a few keys. Hundreds of data files scrolled across the screen. It stopped on one, the screen divided into two columns. One column showed the females information and the other showed the males.

Lutec read the data and grunted with consent. Take them to the recovery unit and give them some clothes,
Yes, Byte nodded. Cyph (say sife!)! Kaz! Take these two to the recovery unit!
Yes, sir! a man and a woman replied.

Atem groaned. He felt like someone had shot a large hole in the back of his head.
Are you okay? a female voice asked quietly.
His eyes flickered open. He found himself lying on a bed, wearing jeans and a baggy jumper. He saw Tea. She lay in a bed next to him, wearing the same clothes. She gazed at him worriedly.
Where am I? Atem croaked.
I dont know, Tea replied.
Ow . . . my head . . .  Atem groaned, sitting up and ruffling his hair.
Um . . . theres something you might want to know about that- Tea began.
AAAHHHH!!!
Uh . . .
What in the name of Ra is on the back of my head?!
Um . . . I think its a socket for some kind of plug, Ive got one too, Tea said.

Lutec entered the room. Come with me please, Atem. I have to show you something,
Tea gulped. She had done this before Atem was awake. Good luck,

After a short silence, there was a thud and a clatter. Tea burst into the room.
Atem had ripped the plug from his head, leapt out of the chair and was stammering on the floor. Byte stepped forward.
G-Get away from me! Atem bumped into a wall and fell onto his hands and knees.
Lutec stepped forward.
ALL OF YOU! STAY AWAY! I DONT KNOW WHAT THAT WAS OR WHERE I AM, BUT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DO THAT TO ME AGAIN!!! Atem roared.
His vision began to blur. He became short of breath.
Hes gonna blow! Cyph hissed.
Just breathe, Atem! Kaz barked.
Atem choked, vomited and collapsed.

Atem lay awake when Lutec came into the room. She sat down on the edge of the bed.
Welcome to the Matrix, my friend, she smiled.
Atem glanced at her drowsily over his shoulder, as if she was insane.
