Chapter 1 - Sonnet
End-of-the-Year Sonnet
Thy classmates sprung with glee depart thy halls.
The lockers lie unfilled, deprived of stuff.
The students leave to answer High School's call.
Just hoping what they've learned will be enough.
To last them through the summer without fail.
And hold them 'till the school year starts again.
When their knowledge they'll be forced to unveil.
When new ideas flow to paper through pens.
The memories of past years in their heads,
Students will start new, a clean slate in hand.
They'll find new pencils and sizes of lead.
They'll join new clubs like Orchestra or Band.
But the basis of learning from schools past
Is really the education that lasts.
