Chapter 1 - Alone
Alone
I stand,
Laughing,
As I watch
Everyone around me.
Everyone’s happy.
Playful.
I call out
To someone near me
But somehow
They don’t hear.
I try again,
But still
They continue,
Not listening.
Then suddenly,
Everyone begins to leave.
They drift away
And no matter how much
I shout
They don’t turn back.
I reach for them,
Try to follow them.
But my feet are frozen.
I’m trapped.
Only one person remains,
Laughing at me.
Fearfully,
I ask why.
Why did everyone leave?
Isn’t it obvious?
Is his reply.
You’re useless.
Tears fall as he too walks off,
Leaving me forever
Alone.
