Chapter 1 - Beauty

Why is it that people look for beauty
Only in things that are
Accepted as beautiful?
No one ever sees the untainted poetry
Of a still, lifeless body
Lying at the foot
Of a twenty-story building.
Or the amazing elegance
Of the crimson blood
Glistening in the moonlight.
Nobody thinks to notice
The awesome purity
Of the glazed over eyes,
As white as two great pearls.
No one thinks to observe
The cold, stiffened fingers
Clenched together as if attempting
To grasp the darkness
In those final few moments.
Or even the simple poise
Of the final breath
Visible only in the chilled air?
This is beauty to me,
A form of art above all else;
It is the beauty of death.
