No I didnt use any books, I am a self taught artist but when I first started out I referenced from manga because its monochromatic and It easiest to see the lines when first starting, I have only been drawing for almost exactly a year I do have some drawing books but not anime/manga they are faces and features books and then I have a learn to draw now kit by "generals" but I dont use it my advice to you if you want to become better is start out with manga scans then work your way up to colored manga and other anime screen shots. As for how I learned to draw? I dunno... I just took a crack at it. >,> And ended up developing my own style really. Truthfully, I started with fan art first--like drawing screen caps. and such, and then I just kinda branched out on my own.
As for the artists? Well, my favorite manga artists are: Bisco Hatori * author of: Ouran High School Host Club* , Kiyo Kyujyo *artist for Trinity Blood*, and Tite Kubo *author of Bleach* If anything I found that their styles afffected me the most, and helped me out. ^^
