Chapter 1 - A Shadow Incarnate

Awake but dead
A shadow instead;
My body has long since gone.
Still I survive
On death I thrive;
I walk the earth till dawn.
 
The lessons I learn;
For blood I yearn
I cannot walk in day.
So my body stands still
And waits to fulfill
This longing to find my prey. 
 
But my mind and my heart
Are set apart
In this struggle within my soul
But instinct wins
And so it begins:
I now carry out my goal.
 
So against my will
I start to kill
From dusk till dawn each night.
My body it seems
Too great a being
For my heart alone to fight. 
 
This conflict within,
Now reaching the brim,
I pause and hold my breath.
I cannot restrain
Nor bear so much pain;
My sanctuary is death. 

But a shadow am I,
I cannot die;
I sit here with my scars.
It’s too much pain
Just to remain
Stuck beneath the stars. 

So every night
I try to fight
This undying desire to kill.
And corpses all
Will begin to fall
‘Til no more blood can spill.
