for without them knowing that one gaze started it all and they were hoping that's how it was going to end…what did that mean? did it mean sasuke killed them both or they just broke up?

uh, none of them died or was going to get killed, it just meant that the whole thing started with one gaze, so they were hoping it was going to end like that as if each other was the last thing they both saw before dieing, after of course a long life together.
