I'm loving the story so far. You have a very relaxed writing style.But one small thing, "Sure, she was American, but she watched enough anime and read enough manga to know about Japanese culture."
Yes, we bow...to each other. It'd be a bit odd to have an American bow to us. We prefer to use the western greeting with a fellow westerner of simply shaking hands. ^.^
