Greetings once again! I crave your advice and pray you're able to give it to me...
When you're working on a commission, how do you calculate how much you should charge for it? I know you can't just randomly say 'that's 100 quid' for something that doesn't look as if it's worth 100 quid. I've been told by some people that how much you charge should cover the cost of the materials used, but supposing you didn't use a lot of materials, or the materials didn't exactly cost loads anyway?

It should cover more than just the cost of materials: you're also charging for your time and how much energy etc you're putting into it.

Out of curiosity, who have your artistic influences been? I'm asking because lately my brother moaned at me for neglecting my own art style and just imitating the style of others in my fanart (I hate to admit it but he's right -_-') He gave me a couple of concept art books by the likes of Ian Miller and a few other people so that maybe I can gain an artistic influence, but I think I much prefer stuff by Brian Froud and this chappess who calls herself Goldenwolf.

This is embarassing, but it was something like this in order of timeline. xD

Lion King-->Sailor Moon-->Gundam Wing-->Ranma. And then I started over, ignored most of those (aside from Disney).

So your influences are mainly manga and anime eh? Cool. Right now I'm going through what I like to call 'artistic frustration', especially doing drawings of wolves. Why does their fur have to be so difficult to draw?! Everybody else in the world seems to be able to do it with ease. Harruff...

When you're drawing a character in a difficult pose, like your drawing of Sheik sprawled on the ground, do you use a mannequin or model to help you?

I usually just sketch out a test pose on line or computer paper as a thumbnail before hand. I haven't ever used a mannequin. As for models, the only ones I have access to are in my class, so I don't use them for fanarts.

Hmm, so I better shout out a bit then eh? I'd entered some artwork into a children's book illustration exhibition some months back and what did I get? Sod all, that's what!! Has that kind of thing ever happened to yourself? When you pour your heart and soul into your artwork for a competition or whatever and the judges choose the crappest one?

Well, it's not super realistic to expect commissions to come pouring in. In regards to your experience with the exhibit, it's best to think of it as getting your name/work out to more people.

It's happened to me, but I didn't enter my stuff with the intention/expectation that they would be sold. I was just getting more of my work out there.

As for a competition, it's happened once, but looking back on it...while the entry didn't deserve to win (there were others that were of the same technical level and more creative), I can tell that mine certainly didn't. It was pretty crappy, and I was too young to be going against that level of people.

But personally, I get more of the enjoyment out of doing the art, rather than contests or recognition.

I'm only asking cus I've recently finished a course in illustration and hope to make my mark on the art world, in one form or another. That, and I'm assuming you've had quite a few commissions.

Yes, I've had a few commissions: most of them are during the summer.

I suppose it can be, depending on how much promoting you do of yourself, and how many people see your artwork?

Right now I don't actively go around pimping that I do commissions or I need them, other than what you see marked on the profile, so it's not a regular source of income, but I get commissioned every now and then.

So I guess it depends on your portfolio, how much you pimp out the fact that you do commissions?

WHY DO I ALLWAYS FORGET TO ADD THINGS?
Add 100 Quakes or Tornadoes to Squall's STRENGTH

Don't know if you haven't beat Adel in FF8 yet but I have a tip for training. Since you only use Squall against Adel (haven't fought her in a while so I think you only use Squall) Have him eguiped with a GF that knows Ability x3 or 4. Equip STR +20,40, and 60%. (Hey if you don't have 60 go to the Deepsea Research Center it's in one of the corners) You'll have to kill a few Ruby Dragons the eventually Bahamut.) Hey I had Lionheart for a weapon but Twin Lance or Punishment works too. Use Aura and Squall can use Renzokuken with max hp. Hey I dealt 1000 damage at Dollet in the field exam

Hello!!! Well, I was looking at the site news (not there is much there) And I was looking at the Artists of the month and I was all like "hey I haven't seen this name before!" So I clicked on you name.

So I was then cyberly transportated to you picture area. *pauses for dramatic effect* WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!! I love your stuff. It's really good. I mean your sketches are like Master pieces, your finshed works should be in museums (but I don't mind that they were put on this site instead) And everything you have up is really good. After looking at your pictures, I figured out why you were an Artist of the month.

So Just saying how great your art is, and how nice you seem. If you think I'm trying to suck up to you so I can get a request from you, I'm not. REally.
