My beloved’s skin is not the smoothest
And tusks have I seen whiter than his teeth.
Yet e'er think of trade I never wouldst:
Richer than gold is what is underneath.
His smile does not illuminate a room,
My darling’s curls are unlike smoothest silk
But his soul a thousand suns would consume
Trust I have that I he would never bilk.
My love’s feet grow large and odd I can see.
His arms too thin and his legs too flimsy.
Still his rippling words are a soothing sea,
With calming whispers his voice reaches me.
In the end his inner beauty prevails.
Not the external, but in his details.
