Hey, good to hear from you! Hope all is well with you! Things are the same old, same old here pretty much. Naruto (just the manga at this point) has been inspiring me for Okuden, so I totally get that! Can't wait to see more of your work.

I'm glad you're still reading! Serving and Okuden are two of my favorites that I've written. My new Resident Evil fic is pushing that, though. I got bitten by the RE bug.

Right now I'm working on a Supernatural fic, and I've got several other ficlets in the works, but if the bf plays much more Ninja Storm I'm gonna have to start writing hardcore.

I'm in the process of getting caught up on Okuden, and I just finished turning Serving into a pdf so I can send it to my kindle.

Hopefully you'll have fun with those fics. I certainly did writing them! I'm thinking of putting my Resident Evil fic on ff.net. Despite the OC use out of necessity, I think it might be ff.net speed.

Going back to school come September (maybe; unsure as of now). I was working four jobs at one point. One position got downsized, One l left for health reasons (I was working security at a nursing home in the middle of construction, and I was sick as a dog every time I went there. Some kind of allergy or some such), one I left because there was no room for advancement and I got the managers in a few lies, and the other one I'm not sure if I'll go back to or not. I've got a job interview tomorrow, though, so hopefully that will work out. Work and school haven't been lucky lately, lol. As for the girlfriend thing, nah. Had my eye on three girls- two were engaged (seriously, how the hell did I manage that? One engaged I understand, but two?!), and the other has a boyfriend. So, no progress there. I'm going to shelve that particular desire until my luck takes an upturn, I think. One of the ones that is now married is going to be the 'one that got away', I think.

But it's not all bad. There's some other stuff going on that's plenty fun to make up for all the crap, so I really can't complain :)

I've got some HolmesxKitty Pryde going on in it, since Scott's love life is pretty much non-existent in Wolverine and the X-Men, which was the basis for this. I should say, the short-lived (too short lived, really) cartoon was the basis.

It didn't! I was really moved by it. I have two chapters left of the "after" arc, but my internet shut down. On the bright side I got a tablet for my birthday! I can now color my pictures beautifully. :3

Yes. I thought the death was kind of sudden, I wasn't really sure what was going on until the casket was mentioned. But it was very moving.

That's what I thought, too. In my mind, I could see it anime-style, just kind of fading to black as Hayate threatens the mystery attacker; then suddenly we're at the funeral. It didn't play out as clearly on paper.

Oh, and you were absolutely right- I was totally mixing up Hisako and Amy! I had intended to make Hisako high energy and maybe a little gruff towards her team, but then Amy just took over XD

Ah, I can understand that. I have a hard time with transitions sometimes.

xD Amy tends to do that. I'd just keep in mind that Hisako is much more laid back. She does some light teasing, and is brutally honest, but rarely is she as brusque as Amy. I think... I think 'bristly' would be a good term to describe Amy. It takes a special kind to put up with her shenannigans.

I'll tone her down a bit in the future, lol. Since most of this is happening when she's still a kid, maybe i can write it off as youthful exuberance? XD

Depends on what age. Cause she goes through some bullshoot as a kid that leads to her introversion.

For the sake of not knowing her complete story I've basically skipped the part of childhood that I'm guessing all that takes place in. I don't want to make a wrong move on a story I'm not totally familiar with.

What age did your story take place in?

Let me see...currently they're all roughly 18-19, then the genjutsu flashback takes places two years prior, 16-17. The flashabck where they all meet takes places at 12-13, maybe fourteen. Roughly speaking. The only person who age I've set is Yuji's. If you have a preference I can add it.

That would definitely be an interesting little intersection there. Go for it!

I definitely will, once I get a little more insight onto how to play out her childhood.

Maybe making her an extreme version of her older self would be the way to go? Kind of like Jiraiya was a major screw-up as a kid, and kind of kept that personality trait as he got older. With her persona, it would be fun to see her be totally blunt to high-ranking people imho

To answer your previous question- last night was time to get some sleep. Had a really stressful week between dropping my Statistics class and refereeing THE worst game I have ever been involved in! We had 20 people fighting at once. Good God, by the time we sorted all that out I was exhausted.

It's plausible absolutely. The only thing I definitely established is that they were friends before the attack. I didn't give much thought to it beyond that to be honest. I was too busy focusing on how Hisako could use her water-related abilities. Did you ever decide more on her attack style?

No, I didn't give it much thought. I really saw her using taijutsu coupled with her water abilities on offensive, and using the water as a shield/propellant on the defensive. Of course, shoot gets crazy after her transformation. She's like, Kisame x 5.

Speaking of Kisame. Did we learn any more about his clan or whatever? Cause I wanted to play with that, but I didn't really know how to without f'ing up canon.

That all sounds like an interesting path, I think. Some tragedy to justify her being 'bad' for a while. Gives you an excuse to make her more aggressive. Makes her stand out a bit. I like it ^^

Well, I'm thinking a scenario like when Naruto found out he was possessed by the Fox, but she gets pissed off and leaves. How could they deprive her of her birthright, of all this power?

Or maybe Konoha annihilates her clan (obviously Kisame had left to do his swordsman thing), and when she finds out who she is, on top of her family being dead by the people who locked her away... She snaps.

Yep. My Japanese class I was going to use for review got cancelled, leaving me with just Statistics. Yay. As for work...sucks on all fronts. lol. Been there. My problem was I took all the things I suck at all at once, trying to get the annoying stuff out of the way. Usually, suspension isn't that big a deal. Probably you'll get a one course limit, have to talk with a counselor, etc. Pass that one course and they go to academic probation. Repeat, and you're good. I wouldn't worry too much. Especially this early in your college life. You're hardly the only student to bite off a bit more than you could chew. Lots of people are in the same boat as you, guaranteed.

Well, we met at a friend's 21st birthday party. I thought he was cute from the get-go, but I was kind of uncomfortable because of all the people I didn't know around (including him). But after a while (and a few drinks) I warmed up and we talked a bit, and then I stomped him at beer pong. The night wore on, and eventually most people went to other parties and stuff, so the people at the house where the original party was kicked us out, and I didn't want to go home, so I went to his house, with his roommates. He and I immediately claimed the couch, where we cuddled, while the others sat on chairs or the floor. We played some drinking games (of which I also stomped them), and he and I kissed and stuff in between games, etc. I was NOT the first to fall asleep, but I was the second. When I woke up (around 11) he took me home so I could get ready for my grandmother to get into town. I saw him a few days later and we kind of just connected. I was afraid it was just drunk me and drunk him, but it's sober us too! He's an avid gamer, and a huge anime/manga/japan-in-general fan, and he likes that I don't mind he's a nerd. xD He's really quite awesome.

I'm just happy that he likes me so much. I'm usually terrible in these sort of situations, but with him everything seems very natural. I don't need to feel nervous, because I don't feel like I'm being judged. He likes my company, I don't need to do anything to impress him. He's very easy to please, which is great for me because I haven't got a clue about men. xD

That's a good deal. There's nothing more awkward than someone trying too hard and sending off the wrong signals. Or trying too hard at the wrong time when there's just no mood or feeling to it.

Cool. The concept is that a human boy dies early, similar to Yusuke. He's commited a crime in the process of dying, so he's had to serve in the underworld before he can be returned to his body. And when he is returned, once a month, he becomes a lemming basically. As in he'll automatically attempt suicide and must be saved by someone else, either human or demon, to prove that there is hope for both humanity and demonkind (I guess XD)

I've been pretty much down and out with a nasty cold. I also had a lot of work (figures), which didn't suck as much as I thought despite the cold.

Oh, I had an idea for an ST fic. What do you think about this: Holmes is in the holodeck on DS9, having been challenged by Admiral Sulu to a surprise scenario. It turns out to be Enterprise B, with Holmes in the role of Kirk. As per usual for ST, the holodeck goes on the fritz and Holmes is trapped inside in sort of a feedback loop (Similar to the Doctor on Voyager). His memory synapses are degrading rapdily, but the crew can't get him out. IN the meantime, he basically lives through ST: Generations in Kirk's role, as programmed in from old Starfleet reports and Picard's testimony.

Is that too far-fetched, do you think?

Anyway, the main character's name is Toan, and his unofficial girlfriend is Paige. Her dad's name is Pike. Pike is a strapping fellow. I thought it would be an interesting relationship for Toan to go after his girlfriend's dad.

Toan always liked to fish at dusk, when the village was settling in for the night. Some of the villagers were a bit too friendly, and he wanted some time to himself every now and then. When he did, the pond behind Paige’s house was where he went. Just as the sun went behind the wall of rock that was the Divine Beast Cave, Toan threw out his line and sat on the grass. He hummed a tune to himself as he pondered all that there was left to do. Rebuilding the village was a slow process, and Toan had a lot of weight on his shoulders to get everything right. He did his best, to be sure. Things were coming along nicely, but sometimes it seemed that everyone in the village either expected him to have it all done yesterday, or they expected him to fail miserably. The only place he really felt at peace was this little pond.

A fish tugged on his line, and he tensed, ready to snap it taut. It swam away, and he slumped back down.

“Hey there, Toan,” a voice called softly, and Toan jumped to his feet, nearly dropping his rod in the water. It was Pike, Paige’s father, walking over to him with a fishing rod in hand. Pike was a good-looking man, Toan supposed, though he hadn’t much thought about it. He had a strong, firm jawline that made Toan jealous, and a wide grin that was infectious. His eyes were kind, and that’s what really drew Toan, he figured. They were dark, and sometimes hard to read, but kindness always lingered there. Pike’s russet-brown hair stood up in unruly spikes behind his headband, and it made Toan want to reach up and try to tame it himself.

“Oh, hi, Pike. I hope I didn’t disturb you. I come here in the evenings sometimes to relax,” Toan offered as a conversation starter. He loved the sound of Pike’s voice. It was deep, but gentle, and very soothing.

“No, you did nothing of the sort! I see you out here from time to time from my window, and tonight I thought I’d join you, if you don’t mind,” Pike replied with a grin. Toan’s stomach tightened when he saw it, but he wasn’t sure why, so he shrugged it off and smiled back. He scooted over as Pike plopped down on the grass beside him, his fishing rod at his side. He spread his legs out and braced himself by putting his hands behind him, then looked at Toan with a friendly, open expression.

“So how are the repairs coming?” He asked, and Toan had to stifle a groan.

“They’re slow, but they’re coming. I wrote down everyone’s requests and I think they’ll be pleased with the result.” He sighed and shook his head. “If they don’t murder me first,” he added with a rueful grin. Pike laughed, and Toan thought he’d never heard a more wonderful sound. He vowed then to try to make the man laugh more often.

“They won’t murder you, Toan,” he assured the boy, seemingly unaware of the blush that crept to Toan’s face as Pike said his name. “The villagers understand that you’re doing your best, and they trust you. We all know we can count on you,” he finished, putting his broad hand on Toan’s delicate shoulders. The boy had to suppress a shiver at the heat Pike’s hand was emanating, even through his clothing, and was surprised when a different part of him started responding to the physical contact. He stood up abruptly, shifting the fishing rod from one hand to the other in his attempt to avoid Pike’s gaze.

“Thank you,” Toan said with a blush, still not looking at the man beside him. A few moments of silence, and Pike stood up, brushing his pants off.

“Do you mind if I correct your posture?” Pike asked, already moving to stand behind Toan.

“U-um, sure,” he replied, suddenly anxious. Then Pike’s warm, calloused hands enveloped his and he was pulled snugly into the older man’s body, with no personal space left. His body’s reaction was immediate. He became hard almost instantly, something that had never happened before, not even when he and Paige had had that midnight fumble in Dran’s windmill. All Toan could think about was how warm Pike’s body was, and how good the man’s hands felt. The hints and tips that the older man kept murmuring into his ear weren’t helping either; the warm breath passing across his skin, and the rumble of Pike’s voice that Toan felt through his back all served to worsen his growing problem.

Wow, that gets funnier after the 4000th time I hear it. ;P

I had thought about that, but I went the road I did for two reasons:
1- this chapter and the one before it were supposed to lead up to it. Like, Shiroko has it in her head, and she knows where this is going. I didn't want Yuji to get too much into the act, lest it take away from Shiroko being the one directing the pace.

2- It would have wound up X-rated if I'd started to tease it.

But I should have hit some middle ground. I think I tried too hard to get away from Azami, too. Like 'Okay, Azami would jump his bones and be all over him for sex, so let's have Shiro be into the relationship. And, hell, let's have them both be reluctant about it. Like, "Where is this relationship going" reluctant.'

I think Yuji finally getting some tail is sort of the fanfic equivalent to the world ending. No writing will ever do it justice. It's just such an impossibly rare phenomenon!

Say you've been in an extremely non-defined relationship for about three or so months, but you've known the person for years and have had a very close friendship with them up til now. You're starting to think you're in love with the person, and it's getting harder and harder not to say it. When is it okay to say it?

Let's see...I would say it's less a matter of time at this point. This situation doesn't sound like out and out puppy love. I would say now it's down to picking the right moment with the right atmosphere (unless there is a very, very clear reason to think that the feelings will not be mutual). What that is depends on the individual and what he/she thinks is romantic and appropriate for such a confession.

Well what if long distance is a problem, and the only communication (at the moment) is through texting or instant messaging? The feelings appear to be more and more to be mutual, but scaring the other person off is a serious concern.

I don't think distance should put a damper on romance, personally. But be prepared for flack if the relationship works from skeptics who think otherwise.
As for timing on that...I think the most you can do is put yourself in the most romantic mood possible. It's hard to convey emotions across an IM or text, but it's just like writing a fic- hit the right mood, and the words just feel right.

I'll be honest with you there- it's a split. Some guys want girls to come to them; others are more old fashioned. I would say, if you're sure, then make your move. Chances are, he's thinking the same thing based on the evidence you've given me. Guys tend to be clueless about romance beyond dropping hints. Taking that into consideration, I would say 'go for it'.

The whole point of Dax/Holmes was to give Amy a way to poke some fun at Holmes and get some dialogue going (besides having Riker drool all over her and the like). I wasn't trying to push Holmes/Dax, but I think it came off that way. (shrug) Wasn't intentional, for the record.

But it was fun. I thought about having Amy smack Riker in the side when he semi-oogled Dax, but it didn't seem to fit.

I know I pushed you for promptness, but despite all talk to the contrary, Amy DOES enjoy a bit of romancing. She's not THAT easy. ;)

Okay, here's a little taste. It's small because I'm still working on the tone of the story. But it's a start:

The Ponce de Leon rounded the moon of Kaarlaid III. Will Riker was at the Conn, piloting effortlessly thanks to both skill and favorable space conditions. No ion storms, enemy ships- nothing.

He smiled to himself, humming a mindless tune to himself. With him, he had the newest young Ensign aboard Enterprise D with him. She’d rarely ventured outside sickbay, as she was still getting used to her new duty schedule. But he’d seen young Amelia Collins enough to know she was just his type.

Gorgeous.

Riker had no problem with the ladies. He could have his pick, and a less honorable man would have taken advantage of that. But Will was careful- if there were no feelings, or at least the potential for feelings, he would look but wouldn’t touch. That would just be irresponsible- especially with his duties.

“So, Ensign Collins, how have you enjoyed the Enterprise so far?”

Amelia, more commonly ‘Amy’ to those who knew her, responded instantly. “Very much, sir. The crew is kind and certainly able. Even that clod Ensign Holmes. Bloody command-track- ahem. Sir.”

Riker had to chuckle. It was an unfair description of the other young ensign assigned to the Enterprise. Being so low on the totem pole was a bit uncomfortable for him. Not due to any ego issues; it was just plain to see that Ensign Holmes didn’t see where he was contributing on the Enterprise. He had approached Riker about that right away, at least partially as a means to quell the gossip that he hated his assignment.

“Command officers aren’t your cup of tea, Ensign?” Riker asked, maybe a little hurt. Damn. Is this door shut before I even touched the handle?

Amy giggled, which seemed a bit out of character. “No, sir. Just the hotshots who want to use a the daughter of an admiral to earn their stripes. If they’ve seen success on their own, then I can believe they’re genuine.”

Was that a line? Will wondered. This girl was pretty feisty. Likely more trouble than she was worth.
Riker hid a smile in his beard. He might have been talking about the Enterprise or Ensign Collins.

Hey, that's really nice work! I love the details on his fingers best, I think. Probably because I can't draw hands, and I think they came out really nice here.

I've got to go for the night, but not before I share a bit with you. Some of it I've had done for quite a while. The other bit is more for Riker/Amy. If you could let me know if (a) I have Amy's reactions right and (b) If Dan and Dax are in a believable scenario, that would be great.


“Pirates…” Riker muttered. That wasn’t good. Romulan cloaking technology, Klingon firepower, and Vulcan precision…
A deadly combo. The Enterprise is a full day away at maximum warp. We’ll never be able to fight this thing. So that leaves tactics.

“Ensign, engage your safety harness. That moon is Class-P. It’ll be cold, but serviceable. I can’t promise a smooth landing. I‘m going to vent plasma from the warp core and then detonate it. That should buy us time.”

Amy obediently strapped herself in. She held onto the edges of her seat, not liking this maneuver already.

Amy woke up first after the landing. She noted immediately that the ambient temperature in the shuttle had dropped nearly twenty degrees. Shivering slightly, she tended to Riker, seeing that his injuries were minor. He had a small concussion from his head bouncing off the conn, but that was the worst of it. A quick treatment would take care of him. While he was coming around, she replicated blankets, thick uniform jackets, and clyminiproxethal- a drug that would help the body retain heat.

As an afterthought, she took two phasers from the aft compartment.

Riker came around just a few moments later. From the chill, life support was off, as was everything else in the shuttle. A quick glance revealed that venting plasma from the warp core had initiated an emergency shutdown of all systems, save for a very minimal life support, determined appropriate by the computer for two adult humans. The system could be restarted at any time. There was no point in that, though, Riker decided. That ship up there would just swoop on them again. Their best bet was to send out a distress signal, then abandon the shuttle and take shelter wherever possible.

Dax’s eyes widened sympathetically as Dan recounted the tale of how he came to be promoted so quickly to Ensign. The story had shaken her, and if she was shaken with all her life (lives) experience, then how was this young man to feel?

He had told her more of the story than he needed to, but Dax made no move to stop him. She felt instinctively that he needed to tell someone this.

To be one of only three survivors among the four hundred fifty across two ships…

When he was done, Dan looked drained. He sat down with his raktajino, grimacing at how it tasted cold. He drank it anyway, and the bitterness seemed to do some good. He perked up and met Dax’s eyes.

“And that was that. So, am I in the history books here, too?”

Dax began to correlate his story with the computer. She shook her head after a moment’s time.
“Nope. According to this, you were promoted to Ensign through a normal course of duty. Your first assignment was on the USS Guardian, but there was never an attack on the ship. From there, you were assigned to Voyager. And now, according to this, you’re engaged to one Jadzia Dax.”

Dan had to chuckle a bit. “This reality is certainly tempting. I wonder how Sisko feels…Sisko…”
Dan frowned, deep in thought. With that subspace fracture open…if a runabout could fit through, why not a transmission?
“Lieutenant, could we contact Commander Sisko through the fracture? If a runabout could go through…”

Dax followed his line of reasoning, mentally doing calculations.
“I’m not sure it would work. There’s a Commander Sisko in this world, too. You and I are the common links, and apparently what changed history- or at least part of what changed history- so theoretically, we’re still linked with ‘our’ reality.”

“At least we’ll be able to tell the Siskos apart. Mention the wedding and see if you get ‘ah, yes’ or ‘what the hell?’.”

Dax smiled, but that did clue her in to another potential problem. If they did manage to raise ‘their’ Sisko through a local comm system, the signal could be traced. And using the narrow band frequency they would need to to go through a subspace fracture, that would be likely. And more than that, highly suspicious.

Then again, the other option was to do nothing.

New arrival Jed Harper (Theo James) possesses the ability to see the ghosts (which are generally not visible to others), and receives visions of their deaths.
