To believe art is simply something we can see is so prehistoric. There are many fine arts that aren't real, what about Surrealism? Surrealism is images from the sub-concsious, just because you can't view pictures from the sub-conscious doesn't make it any less of an art style!
Manga is as much an art style as any other fine arts! It requires talent, it requires imagination, and if painting fantasy like unicorns and fairies can be art, manga should be to!

You should talk to your teachers more about this! I mean, manga was created in Asain countries, right? My art teachers are all fine with me drawing manga and help me whenever they can. They even have books in class.
