Well, I was never any good at giving advice, but I can tell you what it was that helped me improve:The most important thing is of course lots and lots of practice. At the very beginning (geez that was some 8 years ago!) I was practicing by copying pictures. I think this really helps you improve.
Don't you worry about your pics! You have talent! I can see by your pic of Tidus. I wasn't that good at your age...
