Hmm, well, I can't say that I've got any advice for that. From what I've seen of your work though, you're a very good greyscale artist.

Just like everything else with drawing colouring takes practice.

I can, but seeing as I usually forget to ink the lineart before I scan it into the computer, the contrast between white and black is somehow affected and it's difficult to colour. Besides, I'm rather attached to my pencil crayons. :D

That's a really good idea. I got photoshop a while ago and have yet to get around to trying out an idea I've had for it, though it's kinda hard to explain, otherwise I'd tell you exactly what I want to try.

I see. Maybe I should try doing it that way some time. Another way, that my mother just reminded me about, is outlining what's in the foreground (in this case the character) in black.

My backgrounds always turn out gimpy an weird. :/ And they tend to make my pics look overly flat and two dimensional.

That is definately something I agree with, back grounds are hard.

The only reason I can draw like that is because I used to have an art teacher who demanded a reference for everything, so I've gotten used to having to look at a picture to draw.

Well, I have a lot of books about drawing anime, but I usually go and find a picture on the internet, or a screenshot that I absolutely adore and then I draw it. Once I get used to drawing a character that way, I'm able to start drawing them without a reference.

You can't upload pics?! How awful! I have had the same problem and I beleive I know how to help you. Odds are, your pictures are too big, try opening them in an image editing program (I use paint) and then shrink them down. I've found that this not only gets my pics to upload, but to upload a lot quicker.
