Oh, I found a condition that would match Kanya perfectly. I can't remeber the name, but its an inflammation of the vocal cords due to use after a long period of not using the voice. Continuing to use the voice can result in ruptures in the throat, which often aren't serious, and are never fatal. Surgery is a treatment option, and has a high sucess rate.
