This is the source I'm using for the definition. 1b and 2a. I'm just not sure how to start it. It's supposed to go from general to specific, and I'm just not sure how to do it. I don't usually struggle like this with essays.

I was going to suggest, if you want brownie points, pick a word like 'Hyperbole' and in the process of defining it, use it in a sentence from some 'classic' poem/story/etc. Like 'Homer uses Hyperbole through Odysseus in 'The Oddysey'. Odysseus says that 'the cyclops is as high as 20 mountains, and Zeus himself may have quaked in fear'.

Interesting thought. Honestly I think this is a dumb assignment.

Depends on what kind of insantity. I think I kind of made Yuji a mix of scizophrenic (sp) and bi-polar. Neither one is techincally insanity, but it's easier to write. It was hard trying to figure out a way to make his biggest fault a strength. But I got a personal kick out of the shower scene, where Azami is blatantly watching and Yuji couldn't care less.

To Data, life as a android was simple computations. Try as he might, he couldn’t quite factor in human emotions. He had the emotion chip in his quarters, but he was reluctant to try it. Installed prematurely, there was a good deal that could go wrong. Data had to get his processors prepped for such a thing. And that meant understanding emotions.

He again considered he most elusive. Love.

Was what I felt for Lieutenant Yar love? Rather, what I attempted to process as ‘feeling’. I do not know. Four years have passed and I still am not certain. Even Geordi and Commander Riker cannot ‘enlighten me’.

Perhaps another attempt? Data knew that some females found him physically desirable. And he was built to be anatomically correct. His positronic brain could react accordingly to some stimulation, though things such as crying and sweating could not be reproduced due to potential damaging effects on his circuits.

Sex was possible, as he’d learned with Tasha. The feelings that led to the encounter remained elusive, and Data’s records showed that females tended to dislike males who sought out their company only for the purpose of sex.

That is, unless that is their desire as well. But an encounter of that nature does not entail ‘feelings’. Only a physical longing.

Undeterred, Data entered a turbo-lift.

Ten-Forward, the ship’s lounge, was a fascinating place for Data. He knew that most humans came here to unwind or socialize. Data was never wound up, so he could not ‘unwind’. But socializing was an important facet of human existence, so he made the effort to socialize, with mixed results.

Guinan moved toward Data, her motherly atmosphere project a calm intelligence and soothing haven outward toward those who could feel. Data could sense something different about her, but that could be related to the difference in species. Data had met many species, but only ‘one’ Guinan had been encountered.

Dressed today in flowing purple robes with a matching hat, Guinan put a drink in front of Data. He couldn’t drink it, but the gesture made him ‘feel’…

Her rich voice greeted Data’s auditory subroutines. His response was nearly immediate.
“I have been thinking about love,” he said, completely unabashed and unembarrassed.

Guinan chuckled in her knowing way. “Tasha?”

Data raised his eyebrows. “No. An undetermined female companion. I wish to explore relationships again. Otherwise termed as ‘couples’. I was too early in my studies at humanity to comprehend what I felt for Lieutenant Yar. One encounter did not give me sufficient data to make observation.”

“You’re making it too scientific, Data. Let me ask you something: If what you felt for Tasha was love, did you plan it out? Did you put that positronic brain to work and seek out a mate consciously? Or did it just sort of happen.”

Ah, a lesson, Data realized. Guinan often spoke that way. The word ‘parables’ came up in his memory banks, but he passed on usage of it due to Biblical connotations associated with it. Humanoids, he found, tended to be unreceptive to religious discussion.

“Hello, Data. Guinan.”

Data knew the voice to be Ensign Amelia Collins, a medical officer. He nodded politely in reply.

Guinan looked at Data, an eyebrow raised. “Data? You weren’t very friendly to her.”

Data’s head cocked just a bit, as it did when he was processing information.
“I believe I was perfectly amiable, Guinan.”

“Better re-check those equations you’re doing, then. That girl has been dropping hints to you since she first saw you.”

“Dropping hints…ah, you mean ‘to lead to a potential conclusion using wordplay or physical means‘. To ‘hint, hint, wink wink’ with verbiage, to-”

Guinan stopped him there. “Data, if you want to learn about a relationship, now’s your chance. She’s sitting by the observation ports. Why not go ask if you can join her?”
