That's what I was going for with Okuden. I had a whole ton of different versions in mind:

-Yuji and Chiyoko re-united, and Yuji joins her in ANBU
-Yuji deciding to be Hokage, and giving up on everything else
-Yuji having to leave the village for treatment, meeting a girl from the Land of Iron and getting married
-Have Yuji lose his chakra, but give Ryofu one last fight, then die in combat against a really big enemy, buying time for the others to find a way to counter them.

The one thing I haven't done with Yuji is make him a villain, and I wondered what would happen if I did. He's a mix of The Governer from "The Walking Dead" and any number of the Vandenreich from Bleach. 

But you have to wonder- what if he isn't the villain? What if he's right, and Sakura and Tsunade did actually suppress his chakra?

They were both being considerate of Yuji, too. Ryofu didn't want to kill her, and we finally learned he felt a little guilt about the fact that Yuji's life got messed up (though not for the killing act itself. I hope that was OK with you!). I almost went with a route where Ryofu would also have been able to be healed no matter what injury he sustained, but that was too surreal for what I wanted.

That's why the battle was so hard. I couldn't have the dead girl win, because she didn't live long enough to gain any skills beyond the genin level. To match her fairly with Ryofu, I made her strength taijutsu. If he had been fighting an immortal Kage-level, the battle would have been very different, and that was the direction I started heading before realizing it didn't make any sense to do it that way. As far As Yuji went- he had to hit a breaking point.

It occurred to me that some people just can't be trusted. For a guy like Yuji, what would be more damaging than the one person he trusted intimately being the ultimate villain? He's definitely getting to be like Rick (of The Walking Dead fame). Plus, I wanted Yuji to be like his old self, when I first started writing. Memory loss and emotional content have been a constant, and this seemed to be a good way to tie it all together.

I've spent a lot of time brainstorming just how their meeting should go. I've got a couple versions I'm really thinking of, both very cool, hopefully.

True enough. The tricky part was explaining his sudden burst of power. When I re-read it, it almost seemed like the memory returning was an afterthought, or a gap filler, instead of the major event it should have been. But I like the result, so I'm not complaining.

That's a great idea, and you make a good point. If the Sound was established enough to be included in the Chunin exams, it probably didn't collapse outright. I'm looking very forward to reading that.

Not much new on my end. All the fun of being back to job hunting. I don't know why I kept trying to get into the Security business- it wasn't for me. No one takes you serious, you aren't allowed to take yourself or the job seriously, and there's no future in it. So, lesson learned, finally XD I was kind of like a moth bouncing off the same light for a while, though.

I'm looking very forward to telling the story of Ryofu and Chiyoko.

Yuji's power-up was something I wasn't sure about doing- it was almost too powerful for him, I think. But I wound up surprisingly happy with it. I wanted to get him back to his roots; kind of the way he was in my original Naruto fics.

Yeah, Annako is a creppy little thing, isn't she? I have to say, creating twisted characters like her is fun! I wish I could have gone a little farther with her and Azami. Suffice it to say, it wound up far more tame on paper than it was supposed to, lol.

It fit very well into the character as I understand him, and it was definitely executed well. It was 'honestly cruel'; a reality of war. I really like that sort of thing; I think it makes a character even more legitimate. It was cool for me because I saw how he turned out in your fics so far, and how I kind of imagined he'd develop when I borrowed him. This story makes him make that much more sense in the future.

I'm trying to go a different route with Yuji. I'm trying to make him more dark and sinister, but polite. Kind of like Alan Rickman in Die Hard...or as Snape...or as pretty much any role he played, lol. Or maybe like 1000 faces Sydney from Shakugan no Shana. I don't want to make him a villain, or even a 'dark hero'; he's supposed to be a blatant good guy. 

I commented (hope it shows), but the short version is that was AWESOME! I loved the whole concept, and you really worked well with it. Great stuff, my friend!

I'm also looking forward to the PS4, but I'm holding back a bit. My general rule of thumb is by the time the games I want to play come out on it, the hardware issues will be solved and corrected. I do think the graphics are incredible, and I like the fact that the controller looks like something semi-normal. All these gimmicky controllers are driving me nuts.

Yeah, it kind of worked out like that. Yuji was heading down the opposite road from Ryofu in terms of character development. Now Yuji is having the 'identity crisis' and Ryofu is making sense of things. I eventually want Ryofu to be shown as a strong shinobi and a solid (albeit reluctant) leader. Thanks for reading!

Fair point. Playstation is a solid brand. I was always a Sega guy, but obviously that isn't an option anymore. I really wish they hadn't gotten into bed with Nintendo. But Sony is my bet as well. Left 4 Dead 3 is about the only thing that will get me off and running to pick up an XBox.

You've got it harder than I do, then. I just need to fly clear across the US- call it fifteen-sixteen hours or so- to get to any decent conventions. The only good ones are in California, and I'm way on the other side of the map. There's always Chicago or New York City, but man I can't stand either place --' Just too crowded for my taste.

This whole split personality thing is something I've wanted to do with Yuji for a long time. A guy under that much pressure is going to crack eventually. And I have a specific use in mind for Oshima, which we're rapidly approaching. 

I've heard of it, but I haven't picked it up yet. I'm dying to, though. By the way- do you have a pick for the new generation of game consoles? I usually wind up collecting them all after the price drop, but the order in which I pick them up changes. Nintendo is in the lead only because a good friend of mine has a game coming out on the WiiU (I think- he's sworn to secrecy, so I can only guess based on little hints). Sony is probably going to be my go-to machine just because Microsoft hasn't done anything right yet. That, and all those peripherals that are absolute necessities are going to be costly, and Microsoft's customer service is spotty at best.

Same here, minus the anime conventions. None come anywhere near me, and I really don't want to go to Chicago and get shot. I mean, you get some small town stuff, some colleges, but nothing huge and really super fun.

The chapter came about because I really like the Chiyoko character. I don't usually write the high-energy happy girl types, and Yuji doesn't really get into relationships like that. There's going to be a little more to Chiyoko. She holds the key to some important things about Yuji.

Fair point. I may yet include the darker stuff. As for Sonic- you're right. It gets really formulaic, and really overly OC oriented. That isn't bad if it's one interesting OC, but too many and everyone is suddenly in love with each other with no conflicts...yeah. Dull. Xmen will be an interesting one. The Death Game sequel(s) are hopefully going to be good. One I want Dan to face off against a Japanese rival in martial arts and Azami's affections. Then maybe a return to the 'Streets of Rage' type the first fic was like. I don't think you ever finished that fic, actually. Looking at the comments, it looks like you only read chapter 1. As for Resident Evil, it doesn't follow any sort of canon (besides main characters), so anyone who doesn't mind a gorefest should be able to get into it somewhat :)

I hear you there. I'm working three jobs so my writing time is limited. That, and I keep wanting to write really dark stuff that doesn't fit Naruto, so I put it aside and keep to things that are better suited to the Naruto universe. I don't know how big a Resident Evil fan you are, but I'm working on a fic for that, along with a final Sonic story (I know you're not a fan there; I just hate to leave all my Sonic stories without an end, so I'm going to wrap them all up in one shot), and an Xmen story (Wolverine and the Xmen, to be precise), and finally a sequel to 'Death Game'. They're all in the early stages, but they've got a basic idea to them at least.

It's definitely working out nicely. I hope to see more of that fic. The dark tone fit really well.

On a side note, the Azami I use in my fics is different than before. The original Azami was a naturally gifted shinobi who Yuji knew since he was a kid. I like her much better as the mix of Kanu Unchou and Ada Wong she's become.

Thanks very much. I really wanted to have the 'bad' Yuji be this ridiculously strong being, like Bleach's Aizen, or Wesker from Resident Evil. I also wanted Yuji to be killed right away, and have this horrendous amount of damage done. That all worked, which duped me into thinking that Yuji vs. Yuji would be an easy thing to write. In my mind, they're wearing different clothes; one had an eye patch, etc. I'm decently happy with it, but I'd imagine I'll try to re-write out of sheer curiosity at some point.

Let's see...I haven't read any Naruto from you in a while, so that would be my preference simply for that reason. (Though your KH fic did give me a new respect for Kairi)

Certainly. Let me see...

The current version of Yuji uses genjutsu as an opener in a fight, usually as a distraction. He uses a combination of earth and fire style ninjutsu, with his signatures being 'Shoukyaku Jutsu' (Destroy by Fire technique), which is essentially a concentrated explosion Yuji creates by sending chakra to one specific spot, then 'detonating' it. He uses earth style in various defensive ways.

His signature Taijutsu attacks are right-handed throat strikes (example: Block an opponent's attack, catch them by their neck and slam them into the ground) and his 'Crescent Moon Dance' tribute to Hayate in which he and two-three clones all hold some kind of weapon and move in an intricate pattern to confuse the enemy while moving in and out of their striking range.

Caught in a critical spot, Yuji will use his chakra to defend his joints and organs.

It definitely fit, you're right. There was another clip, from Resident Evil 4, that fit. If I can ever find it. Basically, two guys who used to be on the same side are fighting, and it goes from knives to empty hand fighting. It's pretty bad @$$.

Thanks very much. If I were to pick, I had the most fun with the 'What If?' arc, outlining how Yuji and each girl would work out. But also, the 'Devastated' arc was fun, in that Yuji finally hit rock bottom.
My least favorite would have to be the arc where the Leaf has it's civil war. It was too short and just not well done imho.

I'm really hoping I'll like it as much as I think I will. I know just where I would live, too, being the Otaku that I am. Shirakawa, in Gifu prefecture. It's the basis for Hinamizawa in the Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni series.

And it is slightly sad that I know that off the top of my head, lol.

I do plan to go someday, quite possibly to live. Not sure when, but I'm hoping soon. I want to be a little more fluent in the language first.

That's correct. I'm good enough to hold basic conversations, ask a girl out (have yet to test that), and generally survive in Japan. I'm fairly proficient with the writing systems as well, though I only know maybe 75 kanji off the top of my head.

Oh, that's a good comparison, actually! I always think of Yuji and Ryofu sort of as Prof. Xavier and Magneto, respectively. Two different people on the same walk of life, accomplishing their goals by different means.

The scene I had in mind for that song is their battle at the chunin exams. I was listening to it while re-reading the scene and it actually fit really well.

Just wanted to address your comment on 'Serving' quick. Everything will be made clear pretty quickly. I'm not happy with this first chapter. I wrote myself into a corner, so to speak. Thanks for commenting on the final chapter of Serving. Your comment was exactly what I was hoping for. I always hate it when my favorite characters die, but part of me cried 'BS' when they all came back to life. So I wanted to preclude that option. Yuji got a free pass because of his unique circumstance- something that he did not originally get. He only survived because I didn't think of him cornering Nagato and using the Reaper Death Seal until just now, lol. That, and I didn't want him stepping on Naruto's glory. I wanted this to really end up being about Naruto and his team, and show that Yuji was really a stepping stone; albeit a necessary one.

I've got one more fic related to 'Serving' almost ready for posting. It deals with Yuji specifically, and his romance with Kuroko. I hinted a bit at Shiroko and Kuroko having more to them than meets the eye. Hopefully that will be up soon.

Sounds like a good idea. I get that way, too. The only thing that saves me is that I almost always know the way a fic will end as I start writing it, so I can aim for that- then get distracted along the way with a cool story arc or idea that I screwed up once before, lol! Thank you! I was worried about Ryofu being that blood thirsty without a reason, which is where the 'it's part of the chunin exams' came from. Otherwise it would be pointless violence and there would be no well in hell Yuji would ever deal with him.

The fight was a hard one. I had to figure out a way for Yuji to not get immediately obliterated by the Blood Manipulation Jutsu, lol. That proved to be difficult. That, and Ryofu almost became Gaara halfway through. I changed my original fight because it was too similar to Lee vs Gaara.

You know, it was. It was supposed to be a five chapter thing about a love triangle between Sakura, Naruto and Yuji. It stayed that way for quite some time I guess, lol. But yeah, wow.

No problem. I think your solution will work out just fine.

I've run into a similar dillema before. What I finally decided to do was to take a grain of the original world and make it the basis for my idea. As long as the world is in some way connected to the 'original' idea, I think you're fine. Let your imagination go wild, and then tie that idea to whatever is 'canon' with a simple sentence. For example:

Yuji is in a new world.
"This is just like the Leaf Village...there's blahblah blah! What is this place?"

I hope that's of some help. Personally, I trust that your imagination worlds would be very interesting, but I understand the desire to keep with cannon, too.

Yeah, it kind of took on a life of it's own. I had a good time with it, though. It was weird thinking of Azami as a 'normal' girl. But I think it came out fairly well, given that I've never tried this before before.

Yeah, I was in a really bad mood. I'd planned to ask out this girl at the Star Trek convention I went to in August (She was a very, VERY nice version of Seven of Nine, right down to the jumpsuit which leaves little to the imagination). I was kind of hemming and hawing about getting in a picture with her (Why would I want my ugly mug ruining a perfect shot of a babe?), but then she told me in a dead-on Seven impression that 'You will comply'.
Worked on my delivery, then never saw her again. If she hadn't been in a hurry the first time...

Sounds like a perfectly sound idea to me. I could totally see it working when you describe it that way. I'm also a huge fan of any kind of mythology, so I'm doubly interested.

The only thing I had in my head was that I wanted there to be extreme violence followed by awesome sex, lol. Granted, the two kind of intermingled the entire fic, but that made it fun. A character like Azami is just so easy to work with. Kind of like Ada in Resident Evil, who kind of inspired her wardrobe and manner of speech this time around.

Well, to be honest, the limit is what FAC policy and common decency will let me get away with. I can't have her act the part of a 'true' dominatrix without breaking site rules. So I try make sure what they're up to is strongly implied instead.

Some crossovers truly don't make sense. You can't, for example, combine Sonic and Naruto. At least, I don't think so. Naruto and Shana is combatible to some degree, but Shana would fit really well in Tsubasa (You'll see why almost right away if you read it).

I freely admit that, being in a Resident Evil mood, Azami is coming off sort of similar to a dominatrix version of Ada Wong. lmao, it's really weird. I keep writing things that the two of them are doing, and I keep saying 'no way. I can't go farther'. And then, they do. lol.

That's a good way to do it. It really wound up relating well.

It's fun having him be the super-powered bad guy for a change. I think the sequel will be fun. This time, I'm doing something told mostly from Azami's perspective. But I'm still going to give her or another girl(s) their own fics.

It worked out great. The two worlds met seamlessly, which is always a worry when you do a crossover.

I was concerned that the drug use might be too far out of character for Yuji. This version of Yuji is loosely (okay, heavily) based on Wesker of Resident Evil fame. I wanted him to be 'justifiably evil'. But like I said, I don't know if having him use this drug was a good choice. Considering it's been mentioned before in Naruto, it sort of fit, but still...

I might beat the crap out of him, but I still keep an eye out for my poor OC! lol.

I always like Clamp's translated work. Their translators leave in Japanese sound effects and certain words that are important.

I think maybe I've also made Yuji too much of a loser recently. With him, negative imagery is easier to illustrate than positive imagery. There are more stories born from negativity than positivity.

It's a great story, but confusing as hell to follow because of all the freakin' characters. The first time through, it's a giant wtf deal. At least, it was for me, because I was reading it as it came out. With one release every six monthes, it was kind of hard to remember every little nuance. It might be different for you. But I recommend it, big time.

I freely admit, I live for creating a Yuji and Sakura pair on that. lol. I haven't been able to make a good Azami yet, though.

Oh, this was a while ago. Maybe even a couple years. It's more 'Haruhi' than 'Shana' in the first chapter or so, but I'll post it once I clean it up a little bit more. My grammar sucked back then.

I recommend it. The novel and manga don't match up timeline wise sometimes, but both are excellent. The novel moreso, since it's the original story.
The third season should be out soon. Rather, the boxset. Individual DVD's are out for a decent price on Amazon. Usually you find them as Shana II, at least stateside.

They experimented with something like that in Samurai Warriors, I think. The blocks of musou I mean. Guan Yu has been disappointing up until now imho, so I'm looking forward to a challenge.

Yeah I took a bit of notice to some of that.I had posted a shana fic a while back, but no one took interest so I deleted it. It was an interesting mix of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Shakugan no Shana. So I decided to add some Shana to Naruto. I didn't at first, thinking it didn't fit. Then I saw Konan and Pain, and at that point pretty much anything goes.

Good question. I know Geneon was the group that released the boxset that had seasons one and two in it, and I think they used Shout! factory for their VA's, but I'm not sure. Funimation is usually pretty decently quality, so that's a good sign.

It really does. That, and I always got a kick out of leading hordes of people in circles, spinning around and cutting them down for Musou fodder, then running again.

You'll see a lot of Shana-ish effects in 'Serving', if you know where to look. Like Yuji's fight against Pain. I was in a Shana mood when I wrote that a few months ago.
And yes, I'm a ShanaXYuji fan myself. And in case it was still a mystery, my Yuji was named (at least party) for Yuji Sakai.

Kagami, definitely! Or maybe Chisame Hasegawa from Negima's english VA's. Can't think of her name. If they did an english version of the title theme, I would say Caitlin Glass or maybe even Skye Sweetnam (though I usually hate the translated themes).

Did they at least keep the right stick camera configuration? The one-stick movement control drove me nuts in DW5.

Those are all good names (that have not appeared in Shana to date). Season 3 is due for a release in the US shortly. It's theme is 'Joint' by Mami Kawada. STELLAR opening. In fact, I picture that one scene we talked about for our co-op fic during it. at :55-1:05 mark, I always pictured Yuji in Shana's spot, walking in on Kazumi (Azami) and Yuji (Ryofu), with that sort of shocked look on his face. For when Azami is drenched by Ryofu's jutsu and whips her top off, I mean.

In the eng imho, Shana doesn't sound Tsundere. She just sounds like, well, a dog, lol. Yuji's VA did a fairly good job, though.

I'll have to give it a shot, then. I think they finally got the control system right for DW6:E. If they've improved on that, perfect!

Ah, very nice. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The story flows well, has good music, and the animation is very good. I recommend watching subbed rather than dubbed, because the English VA's lose something in translation. Nominally, Shana sounds like a dog in english. You can never go wrong with Rie Kugimiya as a VA anyway.

It doesn't have to be Naruto to be effective; heck, I went the complete opposite direction by writing a Star Trek: Voyager fic a while back. And then there's that whole business with Sakura as a vampire and the like. I just go with whatever I'm into at the moment. I've got a nice Resident Evil fic in the works, too.

Actually, I do have one. Write a one-shot or two about just about anything. Like my romance one-shots. They break the monotony, and more often than not serve to give you new ideas or a fresh perspective.

I've done that, too. Usually when Yuji is doing a fight scene based on moves I know somewhat. But I'll usually pace around listening to J-rock and anime music, and that does the trick.

It was fun watching her learn and evolve as a human/borg. Her character development was stellar.

See, I can sit around sometimes. Other times, I have to pace, or just out and out excersize. Weightlifting, running, playing with my dog. So I totally get that.

Although I could totally break that line of thinking for Seven of Nine.

You haven't mentioned it, but I totally know the feeling. It's very similar to what I've got, which upon further study might be Asperberger's rather than a cronic free-floating panic disorder as originally thought.
It is the same thing, but breakdowns can be more catostrophic. I vent into my fics and exercising, personally

I've seen bits of TOS and Enterprise. Enterprise is better than I thought it would be. I haven't officially gotten to Ezri in the series, but I've seen pics and whatnot, and I prefer Jadzia. I'm a sucker for ponytails and dark hair.

I know I've mentioned my issues with anxiety before. The thing is, what you think of doesn't hurt you- but the fact that your brain doesn't want to shut down and just relax until everything is 'in order' is what gets you. It's irritating because it makes life difficult to some degree, but no one else can see it, and no two cases are alike.

It grows on you. I've only finished Voyager; currently working on DS9 and TNG. I'm actually going to an ST convention in August (the biggest one we've got on this side of the pond). I'm going in costume, as a Starfleet trill officer. Wonder if Dax being hot had anything to do with that decision? XD

Well, I'm no expert, but I'd guess that constant stress from work and school and no real leisure time (i've been running non-stop for six months), plus my usual stress level from that miserable anxiety issue I've got...yeah, just a cumulative thing. Thankfully, I caught on quick enough and got myself settled down to avoid anything catastrophic. I'm basically just finishing up work and school, then taking a break from both for a while.

Geez, that's a hell of a lot to have going on. I've got sort of the opposite thing going on: Work is wrapping up, but school and a near-miss on a nervous breakdown is taking it's toll on me.

THanks for the comment on the HisaKoji (sort of) fic. Man, that one was hard to write. It's surprisingly difficult to get the right sort of atmosphere in a romance fic between two OC's. I'm really glad I went the mild route.

True. AKFG has a pretty distinctive sound as do Mami Kawada and Kotoko. It's too bad Little Non doesn't have more of a presence. She mostly does obscure anime openings, but she's got this pure, powerful voice. I saw a video of her putting on a concert in a random spot on the street in the dead of winter. THat kind of dedication to the craft impresses me.

My buddies are pretenders. For some reason, I find it offensive. lol, go figure.

In my little group of friends, I'm sort of the 'Kagami' of the group. I get exasperated with them easily, and I'm usually the target of their comments. Although personality wise, I'm also closer to Konata. I'm just a step down from it, I think.

I suppose it is possible. I've never really done it effectively, so I tend to avoid it.

The best part is that Yuji is clueless that two girls who rejected him now like him, so he's going to be blindsided when they admit it to him.

That would be damn near impossible to pull off right. Battle Royals work well in anime, but not so much in manga or fics. Plus, it's easier to explain the character through one on one combat.

I do the same thing. I still haven't decided which girl Yuji picks, for example. I've got his role in the battle locked down, but only because I wrote in a clue in a previous chapter that I can't take back.

I think it worked out fairly well. If I didn't organize it properly, I think it would have been a huge cluster of fights with people tripping all over each other. It was hard to pull off coherently.

Luck or not, it balanced out well. And yeah, Kisame's death might put a wrench in those plans. But I doubt you'll lack for enemies to fight. You could probably build up one prominent Rain shinobi now. Or maybe we involve the Mist, since Ryofu also has a bounty? Build up another swordsman for Ryofu to fight or something.

If everything is going well, then there's no story to tell, really. At least, the way I've written up until now.

I had some huge, complicated system for the chunin exams, but then I realized that the teams never really got to fight in an organized way together. So that made sense. I think.

Your update was actually a good balance chapter. Both of us have had constant fighting, so it was a well timed chapter imho.

If all is going well, there's no story. At least, for Yuji. In the sequel to our co-op fic, my writing style is going to change a bit to suit the new characters better.

Now it's all one on one battles, which will create a few interesting scenarios. The finals...huh. Haven't decided yet. It didn't even occur to me yet.

lol, that's what I do. I make up for it in the romance one shots, I think.

There are six total more matches in the exams, but they're all short and will be done within 1-2 chapters. Then would come your idea.

They just seem to suit such a miserable character.

Something like that would be most devastating if things seemed to be squared away. Except for Yuji and Azami, of course. They're my creations; I can't very well let them be happy! lol

The thing I don't like is how I've set up that only Azami is around and not Sakura. I don't want the potential romance to cool off, given that Yuji could wind up with either one.

I was thinking that we have maybe a month or so pass. That seems like a realistic time for relationships to form and for people to completely heal from their injuries and whatnot. Plus, that's time for Azami's little mishap with Ryofu.

I hadn't really thought of how much burden she's got to carry. That's a good point. I don't think I did a job of setting up the dramatic scene I wanted, though.

I really did like that part of it. It's a clever use of a nasty jutsu. The fight with Kisame fights nicely with the story, and it's got a really good 'Naruto' feel to it.

As for Yuji...well, I hope I'll likewise shock you over the course of the next two chapters.

Yuji is going to be like the Third Hokage, I think. Quietly powerful without usually displaying it. Certainly each of Team 7 took on their mentor's traits, so it made sense for Yuji, I think.

If need be, I can give Ryofu a reason to come to the chunin matches early.

It'll be interesting to see how that goes. I purposely made everyone older and/or medically enhanced somehow so that there can be more brutality. It'll be Naruto-styled brutality, and necessary to the story.

Yuji's got kind of a dull ache toward Ryofu. He's not, like, super pissed at him anymore, but he definitely resents Ryofu's apparent skill.

Let's see...the team prelims will wrap up next chapter. The individual matches (there aren't many of those) will be right after that, probably taking a chapter and a half.

No, not really. It's usually cold and windy, even with snow sometimes where I am. The break itself is worthwhile, but that's it.

I think they will, too. It's already personal for them, so they've got every reason to gel as a team and do damage. As long as I handle the situation right, it should work out.

Yuji will definitely take that into consideration when he and Ryofu brawl, lol. It's just one more reason for him to hate Ryofu.

Can you give me a description of Ryofu? Characteristics, as well as physical features. I've been entertaining the idea of drawing a picture of him, but I'm not really sure what he looks like, apart from his white hair.

Chapter 22 is up! Finally. I got stuck in a rut for a while, not sure where to go from where I left it. But I'm back on track now! Hope you like it ^^

It happens. I shudder when I re-read my old fics. I swear, I must not have even known how to type back then.

I'll have to give Yuji's reaction some real thought. When the time comes, I'll make it good.

We should have the bystanders commenting. Stuff like 'My God! They're human?!', etc. And maybe even have Chousen and Yuji's girl worrying about them, before brawling a bit themselves.

That does work out nicely in that respect. Yuji's role will work out sort of that way, too. But in a very different way than Ryofu's.

I think they should meet the next morning, in the center of the village, before the clean-up effort begins. They'll be rested by that point and still have lots of room to work.

That's a good idea. For Yuji's part, skipping over the main, 'odd' part I mentioned before, Yuji will probably go around rescuing various people wherever he can, fighting who he can. He'll be injured badly, healed by Katsuyu, and then the 'odd' part I don't want to give away yet will happen.

That works. I can see Yuji standing there, fists balled, head down, and then his chakra' erupts', furthing damaging the landscape as he verbally lambastes Ryofu.
"You selfish son of a -----! I've had it! You have destroyed my life since you came here. Then you see fit to criticize me with that ridiculousness?! Of COURSE I'm thankful Naruto ended! But don't you see?! The rest of us were powerless! That little bit of resistance was the best we, suppossedly the most powerful village, could do?!"

Then Yuji and Ryofu are broken up. As they're being pulled apart, Ryofu makes the challenge and picks a location. THe point behind this is to make sure they rest and get their chakra back. We shouldn't neglect the fact that they'll be exhausted at that point.

There's one other thing that could touch off the fight between them. I could see Yuji being annoyed that everyone is celebrating Naruto's victory. In his words:
"What are we celebrating for?! Do you mean to tell me you're all satisfied with this? It took ONE OF US to beat them after how many of us were killed? Doesn't anyone think that maybe we need to train harder; be more vigilant; anything?!"
Ryofu could take exception (for some reason; not sure why) and that touches off their feud.

Sounds like a fun group you've got there. The mischief thing; that's a nice touch; especially since my one character is so dark. Our respective chars tend to compliment each other nicely imho.

I think it's at 54 seconds into the video. It gave me an idea of Ryofu's water vs. Yuji's fire. Think we could use something like that in the final battle between Ryofu and Yuji? I'm referring to the lines of red and blue energy in the vid, for the record.

Even though the next-gen thing is on the back-burner, I changed my story to make sure they it's not too similar to yours.

One older girl, definitely like Yuji in mannerisms- 'Shana'. She is a lot like a female Yuji. Seperate from that, she's attractive but doesn't know it (or especially care at first), usually wears her hair in a ponytail, and tends to have a slightly dark demeanor. Tsundere to a degree.

Younger girl- 'Kasumi'- Kind of average girl. She has a lot of energy, very concerned about her appearance, and makes friends easily. She is not overly strong, but is stubborn. Once she puts her mind to something, she's going to get it done.

Boy (age TBD)- 'Koutarou'- Top of the middle type. Strong for his age, average in just about every way. Very courteous and giving. He speaks like he's older than his age, and has a variety of people he is influenced by. He notices girls, but doesn't really react to them, and he has some strange vibe that cause them not to react to him.

Again, I haven't really decided which one(s) will be Yuji's kids, if any. But they'll all be involved with him in some way.

I've just slightly revised my plan, actually. Your vision works fine, except Kiba will have the youngest of two sisters, codenamed 'Kasumi' for the moment. The older sister will be like Yuji, and DEFINITELY his child biologically. Call her 'Shana' for now. 'Shana' will be moody, powerful, and dark, similar to Yuji. Except she'll be the gorgeous, ethereal beauty.

Kasumi will be more interested in boys than power, at least at first.

There might be a brother involved, too, but I'm not sure how yet.

Your vision is fine with me. I like it. Cool concept.

Yuji will have kids. At least one. She may be his or she may be adopted; not sure yet. But I plan for Yuji to be involved at the start, in kind of a villag elder role.

His child will definitely be a girl, though. There will be plenty of male chars involved, and i may even switch who the 'main OC' is.

I'm also not sure of Yuji's marital status at this point. I'll really be going by feel once we get going.

Actually, I do have an idea for you. I'm planning to play up the Mist at the chunin exams, since they have a bounty of Yuji's head. They have a bigger one on Ryofu. Maybe there's an informant in the Leaf who says he's still down and out from a fight, and someone tries to pick him off on a mission Tsunade gives Ryofu (and Chousen?) while he recovers. some routinue, easy thing.

I like that. Yuji walks in, sees the scene, his mouth drops, he stares, and then walks away. The next time you see him, he's back to his miserable mood, possibly doing something stupid, dangerous, or violent, or all three.

This would come just as he's ready to forgive Ryofu. And as he's friends with Azami, he'd feel extra betrayed, leading to self-destructive behavior, and adding fuel to the fire for his fight with Ryofu.

Mami Kawada and Kotoko do a lot of good music. Also, Utada Hikaru's 'Sakura Drops' is another one that pops into my head. Glad you liked the selection.

Yuji's future might be a little surprising. Hopefully.
I'm expecting the chunin exams to take four-five chapters. After that, we could fit in the Ryofu and Azami deal. Ideally, from my perspective, it would be best if you outlined the circumstances that Azami and Ryofu meet under, while I dictate Yuji's response.

Shinobi does have good music. I also like the Resident Evil and Castlevania soundtracks. Yuji's theme in my mind for the longest time was 'Belmont the Legend' from Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.

I changed the format of the chunin exams slightly, which you'll see more next chapter. I wanted to add a different team format, with more emphasis on combat tactics and less on stealth.

Without giving too much away, you won't see your idea right off the bat. But that doesn't mean I left it out.

I always kind of pictured the victim's end (if Ryofu wanted it to be showy) as kind of a reverse Sand Coffin. Same splatter of blood, but the destruction coming from the inside out.

Yes indeed. It's my big answer to Ryofu's Blood Manipulation. Except it's not a counter, it's completely different. But whatever. It works.

That makes sense. It would suck to dry up your own bloodstream or something. The chakra use makes sense, too. THe bigger the jutsu, the bigger the chakra expenditure, etc.

If it wasn't a grievious spoiler at this point, I'd tell you about Yuji's new ability. I can't wait to get to that part. No to mention the roll he'll play in this final battle.

Ah, I get it. The process makes sense, broken down that way. That actually helped me determine the setting where they'll first meet.

Isn't Kaku Toutaku's assistant-thing? With the glasses? And again, that lucky little bastard! Kanu is my favorite so far, although Ryofu is probably the most amusing. And what the hell- Yuji's already been done in this thing! He's almost Ryoumo! Except masochistic rather than sadistic. And he's a dude (duh). lol.

That's actually a huge help. I wouldn't mind more on the blood manipulation thing, though. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I like that. The hot girl who doesn't know she's hot. No ego about it, and that way she's not slutty for showing off. Koukin is just a lucky bastard, lol. He really is.

I don't know; her stupidity is part of her charm in some strange way. I pity our Koukin, trying to keep up with her, though. Poor guy. Then again, he has one hell of a view, with an unguarded girl like that.

As an opponent. I was toying with the idea of making him a disturbed but prized genin of the Mist (possibly; Mist isn't set yet). Sort of a Neji Hyuuga with a dark twist. Will probably face off against Yuji (What else? Lol).

I can see why. It's actually hard to write about at times, unless you can describe the mechanics of a fight. Which, thanks to years of writing Naruto, I can kind of do.

Well, it'll be about Yuji somewhat, starting with the academy years of Lee, Tenten, Neji, and Yuji, since that's where I've placed him age-wise. Basically, it'll be my standard fare, except hopefully written with a better emphasis on detail and Naruto-style. So, lots of violence, unrequited love, etc. I'm not sure beyond that, as to heroes and villains and the like.

Well, I think you'll find it amusing when I get it up, at any rate. My 'inner perv' as you put it, isn't quite done with it yet. lol.

Ah, I see what you're getting at. That makes good sense. And will carry over into the next fic, at least on Yuji's (or whoever's in his place) end.
I'm thinking that whichever girl Yuji winds up with will be the one to teach him a countermeasure to Blood Manipulation. Actually, it should be Azami regardless, because she has the chakra advantage to Ryofu, if I'm thinking correctly.

That works nicely, actually. Yuji's part in this big, final battle is going to be...strange, to say the least. Not his usual fare. So him getting the chance for a last showdown is good.
For added motivation, we can throw in Yuji catching Ryofu and Azami in an akward, accidental position.
For the 'how', I was thinking it comes down to taijutsu. Yuji lands the one crucial punch. THat would illustrate the differences between our OC's best, I think. What about you?

I like your system much better. I think you can made a decent decision when it comes to sex at 16. Rather, legal or not, try to stop kids from getting it on (crude, but honest). Learning to drive comes too early. At least in my area, where there's something like three deaths a year at my old high school due to driving. And 21 is too old for card gambling.

Hey, what manga numbers did you need for Ikki Tousen? Turns out I may be able to order them pretty easily around here. I can (hopefully) help you find what you need. The only hitch: The series is called "Battle Vixens" in the US. Same content to the best of my knowledge; I don't know if they also changed the name for you and if it'll mess up your collection to have some with a different title (it drives me nuts personally), but I thought I'd put it out there. No guarantees, but it's a pretty good bet I can find some of the stuff.

I think Tsunade should face Danzo, actually. I think Yuji would be better suited to fighting people en masse at this point, although I do want him to fight Jugo, too. With his new 'split personality' phase, that might be an interesting fight. Azami would be good to fight Zetsu. I've got her in a support role in the back of my mind, but she could fight Zetsu regardless. Yuji's going to have a special surprise this time around.

How do we divy up the assignments? Obviously you handle Ryofu's battles and Chousen's battles, if she's involved, and I'll have Yuji and Azami. Beyond that, who should control who?

We should probably take our time. I was thinking about that today, actually. I could rush my stuff, but if we're going to do an invasion arc, we should have a decent build-up.

Oh, one thing I've changed since last night: I'm going to hold off on Yuji's love life. I'd rather tell it in a flashback when I can take my time, instead of trying to squeeze it in now. It'll be the same deal with the chunin exams and whatnot, since the timeframe would be all wrong. So, I'll get to them, and probably tell them in flashbacks at the beginning of the first two or three chapters.

If we get the chance, I'd love to do this again, while our OC's are young, so to speak. Maybe do an original co-op fic or something. Same characters, different world. Or even another Naruto fic, with a different storyline.

How about an invasion arc? All of the Akatsuki attack the Leaf, along with a bunch of followers. We get a huge battle out of it, and we can include everyone and everything. Then Yuji and Ryofu (and Azami and Chousen) have it out. The only other storylines I've got going are Yuji's lovelife (someone will confess to him soon) and...one other arc that I can actually carry over to our next fic.

How far ahead do you want to jump time-wise?

Alright then. I can wing the rest. I'm interested to see what the village's reaction to Ryofu will be. There won't be anything profound with Yuji.
The only thing I'd like to recommend (I just thought of it myself, actually, but it's probably already occured to you) is that someone tell Ryofu what really went down with Yuji and Itachi. Hell, in Yuji's absence, Ryofu and Itachi could probably clash, if you're stuck for material.

Okay, that makes sense.

I wasn't sure if using rape itself was a bad idea (which it was, in retrospect. Definitely won't do that again, even though it's mention was mild in this case). I went over in my head what it would take for him to kill someone, and that's one of the only situations that covered it -_-' It was in poor taste, though, and a bad fit for the Naruto world.

I really appreciate your honesty on this. Thanks for telling the truth on that one.

Hmm...you make a good point. I'm going to wait until after Yuij's mission in the Rain for that. I want to get one more chapter focused on the girls getting ready to confess to him. So he should be walking back into a storyline when he returns. I do plan to have him change, though much less drastically.

I like that, too. That was the part of the story that was going to develop further down the line. Basically a whole conspiracy. The next step after this last chapter was going to be Yuji finding a connection to ROOT, and basically calling Danzou on it. Just literally walking up to him and declaring war on him. Challenging him to have Yuji killed and so on.
It was a good idea executed poorly -_-'

One last question, then I'll let this drop (I appreciate your feedback on this big time): If I had toned down the chapter a bit content-wise, would it have been acceptable. Same scenario, but Yuji instead breaks knees and legs. OR was the scenario itself bad?

The only problem there is that getting a girl for him is an end in and of itself.
Actually, I'm just going to hop back to my original plan. Originally, I had a big, elaborate battle planned between him and one of the Pains, with the thought of the girls pushing him through. But that's just more of the same. It doesn't do anything for him, except illustrate a measure of strength. SO I'll just tweak one more element, which should open up some more storyline possibilties.
Leaving that chapter out really doesn't damage my perceived storyline. I had half an idea it might not work, but I wanted your reaction on it. I should atually apologize for the content. I tried to make the situation itself non-offensive, you know? Barring the stupid situation, did you see any elements you think I could recycle?

When I was writing it, I was trying to squeeze it into a small time frame, which was part of the problem. I decided I needed Yuji to show intensity somehow, but it takes a lot to get him riled up. He's more likely to sink into the shadows and brood about it. Unfortunately, that's the downside to his character- he doesn't lend himself (Or I don't lend him well, but you get what I mean) well to extreme action unless pushed there in a rash way. His love life can only do so much for his character. I think he's getting stale, actually. But at the same time, I can't altar him too severely, because then I look like an amateur who's trying to change things on a whim.
OF course, the storyline itself, now that my initial "This is awesome!" reaction from an odd late-night adrenaline surge is gone, is an irresponsible one, and not just because it doesn't fit within the fic.
Ah well. It was one of those ideas that just didn't work. Bound to hit a snag like that once in a while.
